The National Honor Society, made up of students who have maintained a 3.0 average in their school work, decided to add a new activity to the school. It spon- sored a talent show in March which proved to be a suc- cess. The show was composed of acts ranging from singing to baton twirling. It was quite entertaining, and helped the club to become better known throughout the school. 10 future business The F.B. L.A. is made up of students who have taken at least one business course prior to joining the club. Its objective is to train its members in the different as- pects of the business world. leaders of america The club's activities include spelling tests, writing essays, and the annual F.B. L.A. district meeting. This year's meeting was held in Madison, with mem- bers from each school competing for the title of Mr. and Mrs. F.B. L.A. FRONT: C. Printz, Treas., B. Russell, Sec. 11 the chorus provides entertainment for school activities The chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Blauvelt, has practiced faithfully on songs for performances for the student body. With performances at Thanksgiving and at Christmas behind them, the chorus plans for another assembly at Easter and an operetta in the spring. The F.H.A. strives to make better homemakers of today's girls. The club members made stuffed animals for the children in the University of Virginia Hospital who could not go home for Christmas. To raise money, they sold zip code directories. The seniors in the club took the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow test. This award was won by Teresa Cordani. FRONT: C. Woodard, C. Glascock, A. Starting a school newspaper was difficult, but under the direction of Mr. Mal- lory, the staff did a fine job. Its interesting and pertinent columns, editorials, and cre- ative works provided enjoyable reading for the students. Members of the layout staff review pages. The job of producing a yearbook is a difficult one. The large staff worked together selling ads, laying out pages, and writing articles, in an effort to give the students a worthwhile book. Its members sold refreshments at home games to raise money for new blazers. The coats are french blue with the school emblems on the pockets. The club is organized for the purpose of rec- ognizing those boys in the school who have achieved athletic excellence, by lettering in a varsity sport. 18 SPORTS Baseball, Basketball -- Tests of skill and determination School spirit is evident- in victory or defeat . . . The strenuous work presents a challenge -- and the reward of having done one's best. 19 baseball, ’69 The 1969 baseball team, coached by Mr. Patterson, got off to a great start by beating highly ranked Broadway. They defeated Elkton with Elkton's bats. They didn't win any more games, but their effort is appreciated. Sophomore Maury Nichols, who led the dis- trict hitting average at the start of the sea- son, was named to the district 2 team. His errorless season brought him the Most Valuable Player award. The other players were Steve DeMent, Steve Gore, Wayne Deal, Eddie Clark, Floyd Grigsby, Stewart Henry, Warren Beebe, Brian Hobbs, Paul Aylor, and C. G.
