Sports 31 D ) o±t g-O- JSza on; (Zfzamf Lon Lil The 1976 Rappahannock Raider Football team, not expected to be a powerhouse by pre-season experts, roared through its season unbeaten to capture the first district title for RHS in football since 1968. The only blemish was the tie with King George in the fourth game. The Raiders accomplished their great season with a superb teamwork, as only three Raiders were chosen to the All-District team. The pressure of being on top now rests with the 24 lettermen returning. The Raiders will lose ten players from this year ' s team. The 1976 Rappahannock Raiderettes disproved this theory by using a balanced offense and great defense to become district champions. The team had thirteen new members; eight of them Freshmen. The Seniors who ran their last year were - Reginald Fletcher, Douglas lessie, and Michael Parker. The team was also benefited by a new, but familiar, assistant coach in Gregory Brooks. The thinclads fared well against stiff district competition despite their inexperience. The team’s regular season record was 1-4, a downfall from the last few seasons. Hopes for a strong team next season ride on the experience gained by this year’s team. The District Track Meet was held on May 7 at King George. The Raiders finished fifth with Ricky Roane, Douglas Jessie, and Mark Cox advancing to the Regionals.
