' 76 This is The Way We Were in the Bicentennial year at Rappahannock. The year I 976 was a good year; much was accomplished through academics, sports, and club activities. Sit back and review the Bicentennial year at R.H.S. Your means of travel will be the Rappahannock ' 76, Bon Voyage! mmv m, 9 iQinUt 9 ' eLt 14 Seniors 9 9 Because of your cooperation and personal involvement, Mr. Fred Pitman, we dedicate the 1975-76 annual to you. The help, guidance, and understanding that you have shown us makes our school years a little more meaningful and reassuring. Dedication 3 4 rvMl! Ill That small phrase alone causes us to remember things of the past. As you go through this yearbook, I am sure you will find many good memories to reflect upon. Take a long look down that hallway. You will see yourself and your friends gathered around in little huddles trading bits and pieces of gossip or talking about tricks played on them . . . the new teachers who aren ' t as dumb as you thought they were . . . the new students and seeing how everyone is afraid to break the ice first . . . the over-due reports, lost report cards . . . library books . . . the games and meets we won or lost. . . the last six weeks finally here . . . prom night . . . the last will and testament reading and finally graduation!!! It comes to an end only to begin anew in September for another group of Raiders. One thing we, the class of ' 76, will always have, that will never end, is our memories of good ole RHS and the years we spent here!!! 5 FIDLER MARINE CONTRACTOR ' We Do It Better Landscaping and Backfill Warsaw, Va. The FBLA had an interesting and active year. The monthly meetings featured activities related to the world of work. Presentations included guest speakers, discussion groups, games, and filmstrips, all focusing on the opportu¬ nities that the business world offers. We parficipated in the National March of Dimes drive. The members distributed patriotic pins to the persons who made contributions to the March of Dimes. Thus we reminded citizens of the Bicentennial Celebration as well as accepting contributions for a worthy cause. Wilkins, T, Mutter, F. Laws. The Rappahannock Chapter of DECA was quite active this year. In conjunction with the 10 schools in their district, they celebrated the Bicentennial by organizing a field trip to Stratford Hall and a picnic at Westmoreland State Park. DECA officers, after being installed by the 1974-75 DECA President, attended an Officer ' s Training Conference at Virginia Commonwealth University. On Wednesday, February 18, the DECA club attended the annual Dis¬ trict XVII Leadership Conference at Essex High School. During this con¬ ference, ten schools participated in several competitive events designed for either DE I, DE II, or DE III students. A banquet was held at the Essex Steak House and awards were presented. From Rappahannock, Nancy Smith, placed third in parliamentary; Ed Brown, second in sales demon¬ stration, Carroll Wilkins, third in group sales demonstration, and Pam Vicik, third in public speaking. 70 Activities After many long months of DE preparation, Rich¬ ard now looks for a job. Sheryl, Pamm, and Darrell represented R.H.S. in the State competition at Charlottsville on March 27, 1976. Five out of seven placed in the District. Four will go on to the Regional Forensic Sponsors, Mr. May and Miss Williams Meet. The Rappahannock Debate Team was composed of Robert Ryland and Mark Scott on the affirmative side and Jay Winstead and Doug Jesse on the negative side. The team had an active year debating the resolution that the allocation and development of scarce world resources be controlled by an international organization. The team enjoyed a frolicking overnight trip to Madison College, where they were involved in a special tournament. Captain of this year ' s team was Robert Ryland. The Regional debate competition held on Saturday, March 20, brought RHS two more honors. The negative team, Doug Jessie and Jay Winstead, won first place. The affirmative team, Mark Scott and Robert Ryland. won second place even though they won all their debates. Activities 75 MR. Activities 77 The Health Aides Class completed its eleventh year in the old Home Econom¬ ics cottage at Warsaw Elementary School. The first activity of the year was to visit the Crippled Children ' s Hospital in Richmond. The Crippled Children ' s Hos¬ pital helps newborn babies to young peo¬ ple the age of 18. The girls saw some of the eguipment, visited the rooms and talked with some of the patients. The next activity was the Red Cross Blood Mobile. The Girls helped by taking the temperature and pulse of each donor, giving them a glass of orange juice, helping the Red Cross Nurses, act¬ ing as guides and helping to serve refreshments before fhe donors left. They helped with this again in the Spring. The students had a unit in nutrition for the sick and the well. They finished this unit by preparing a meal for the Rich¬ mond County School Board and the Richmond County Board of Supervisors. During the second semester the stu¬ dents went to the Tidewater Memorial Hospital in Tappahannock. There they gave baths, made beds, helped walk patients, and performed other activities which gave them experience in Nurse ' s Aide work. Cindy Veney, Charlene Roane, Bernice Barber, Darlene King, Susie Turner and Donna Mut¬ ter To celebrate the Bicentennial, the Health Aides class prepared a bulletin board of medica¬ tions 200 years ago. On March 19, the cast, crew, and sponsors went to West Point for the Regional Contest. Rappahannock High School again received a superior rat¬ ing. The staff worked on two major areas: (I) to put numerous candids into the book, and (2) to come up with more eye-catching layouts. The book was increased from 102 pages in 1975 to 112 pages in 1976. The Four-color cover of the book added an inter¬ esting element to the Bicentennial Yearbook. Activities 81 H. W.
