Leaders work for Cobblers The hard task of holding down the Cobbler Fort was done well by the Rapid City High School administrative staff. Principal, Mr. Varcoe, had the chief re- sponsibility of making sure that everything was in proper order. Assisting him in this task was Dr. Mitchell, who recently returned to his position as Coordinator of Student Activities after studying for his doctorate degree at the University of Wyoming. Mr. Evans, Administrative Assistant,was in charge of the high school's federal programs in addition to helping students interested in obtaining jobs. Most disciplinary action among RCHS students was handled by Mr. Owens. The attendance counselor, who was re- sponsible for helping students with attendance problems which arose in a percentage of RC HS students was Mr. Kennedy. DR. They advised stu- dents on electives so as to get the best training and to meet college requirements. Giving the student the opportunity to make his own decisions, evaluating himself, besides providing educational and vocational aid were also among their duties. Counselors not only help the students but also help the teachers in much the same way. To the teacher, they serve as resource persons by keeping the teachers informed on available scholarships, college requirements and job opportunities. The counseling personnel also help the teachers to gain understanding of the 'Students' needs and by promoting group guidance through careful plan- ning of homeroom and class activities.
