MILBERT RAU Director of Elementary Education Raymond Reiff, Administrative Assistant to the Superin- tendent, assisted the Superintendent in preparing reports, in acquiring qualified teachers and in deciding personnel policy matters. Giving speeches and informing the general public of school activities were also his responsibilities. ROBERT RICE Director of Secondary Education Mr. itau, Director of Elementary Education, and Mr. Robert Rice, Director of Secondary Education coordinated and supervised the work in their areas of specialization as the needs demanded. They improved curriculum correlation of the elementary and secondary schools, respectively. These two, by observing and evaluating what was being taught, recommended ways and means for improvement. Examining the boiler at the new west high school are school board members Dr. H.L. King, Jr., Walter Quinn, Lloyd Rypkema, Nelville Seeley, and President Louis Bober.

Administrators appointed to n p O S Assistant to the Superintendent The Board of Education has general charge, direction and management of the Rapid City School System. With the school board election this year which elected Dr. Hanford King, the board returned to an all-male membership. By determining which laws, policies and legislation would benefit the Rapid City school system, the members gave their time, and effort for its continued progress. Dr. Charles Lindly's first year as Superintendent of Schools contained many new and different jobs compared to those of his previous positions of Director of Secondary Education and As s istant Superintendent. His primary responsibilities were the coordination and supervision of the central administrative services besides being responsible for the efficient operation of the school system in all its divisions. With the teacher strike, crowded classrooms, and the soon to be completed high school, Mr. Lindly did not have an easy first yearg nevertheless, with Dr. Lindly's aid, the year ended smoothly.
