It sponsored dances, programs, and short assemblies so that the student could mix pleasure with business. The top event of the year, as it has been in other years, was the Annual Football lsloinecoming Dance. Several graduates came back to the high school and got reacquainted with the students. Among the events sponsored by the Student Coun- cil was the special clean-up week. 'lihe week was topped olt by a program in which the owners of the cleanest lockers were given prizes, and awards were made to the neatest boy and girl. Other events in the council's calendar were Cour- tesy Week 3 several dances held on Saturday night in the gymnasiumg movies g and the presentation of professional entertainers to the students. At the close of the year all the money collected by the Student Council goes into the buying of a suitable 34 present for the school for the benefit and usefulness of all. If any of the money is left over, it will go into the treasury of the succeeding year. President .............. ........... M ary Mersereau Vice-l'resident ......... ....,,... In this game the Eagles more than doubled the rushing, passing, and punt return yardage of the tirovers. Scoring for the Eagles were Bud Bob- lett with 1-lf points and Gene Fiedler with six points. Rantoul-Paxton Came The next game the Eagles played was against Paxton, who gave them a very tough game before the Eagles emerged the 7-6 victor. Bud Boblett scored all of the Eagles' points on passes from tiene Fiedler, but Paul Cleary of Paxton almost set the Eagles back for their first defeat of the season when he ran for a touchdown after the kickoff following our lone touchdown. Rantoul-Hoopeston Game lloopeston was the next obstacle to be cleared by the Eagles and they did so with great ease by defeating the Corujerkers of lfloopeston 20 to 0. liantoul's scoring was distributed between Bud Boblett, Mike XVebber, tboth had seven pointsj, and .I ack Clifford who made six points. Rantoul's offense rolled up a total of 420 yards against I loopeston. Rantoul-Watseka Came Rantoul then played VVatseka at VVatseka and soundly thrashed them 46 to 7. The Eagles played a very good game in that their blocking and tackl- ing was much improved from the game of two weeks before with l'axton, when it was very slip- shod. This was Rantou1's best game for passing as they rolled up a total of 1-19 yards in this department. Ranloul-Gibson City Game Rantoul got its revenge on Gibson City for the beating it took at their hands in 1948 by defeating the Greyhounds 13 to 6. The Eagles sewed up the VVauseca title by winning this game. Scoring for the game was started whe11 Butler of Gibson threw a 3-l-yard pass to Elkines for the touchdown, but they missed the kick for the extra point. Rantoul Thr' 1950 Iiaglfl then came back when Bud Boblett scored on a run off tackle and then ran around his own left end for the extra point. Later in the game tiene Fiedler threw a perfect strike from his own 20-yard line to Cordon Sebastian over the center of the line for the clinching touchdown. The game was hard- fought, featuring hard tackling and blocking, but very few penalties were called denoting the sports- manship shown by the boys of both teams. Rantoul-Bradley Came Bradley, who wound up its season by being un- defeated in nine games and a total of 303 points to its opponents 27, beat the Eagles and probably had its toughest battle of the season at Rantoul when it barely edged by the Eagles 19 to 6. Ran- toul's lone touchdown came when 'lack Clifford ran 71 yards in the third quarter. Bud Boblett then ran around the left end for the extra point. Up to this point in the season, the Eagles had scored 114 points against 38 for their opponents. Rantoul-LeRoy Came Rantoul overwhelmed LeRoy 47-7. Scoring for the Eagles was distributed between Bud Boblett, Bill Delva, ,lack Clifford. Don Moran, Don Logue, and Tommy Murphy. l.eRoy made its lone touch- down in the closing seconds of the game on a short line plunge. Rantoul-Onarga Military Came Onarga Military was the victim of a team effort for Bud Boblett to make all-state through his high scoring title besides his other good all-around qualities. This was brought out when twice jack Clifford had made a long run and stopped and laid the ball on the one yard line so Bud could carry it across and win the scoring title. Although one of these times, he was pushed across the goal line for the only touchdown scored besides the 46 points scored by Boblett. Rantoul made its greatest show of offensive power against the Cadets when it made a total of 613 yards. Desmarteau made the only score for the Cadets. It came in the closing minutes of the game on a 15-yard drive. Final score for the game was 52 to 6. 53 Fresllnlzm and Sophomore Basketball Squad .Ym1Ir1f, lrfl in rigflllf--li, IDUXYHS, li. Moran and Boblett handled most of the scoring for this game. Next to face the Eagles' claw were the Rockets of Tolono. The Eagles had an easy time in this game which they won 42 to 28. Sebastian and Moran led the scoring for Rantoul. Rantoul suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of Homer by a score of 28 to 18. Bob- lett and Sebastian were the top scorers but the team as a whole conldn't seem to do anything right. Following the defeat by Homer. the boys came back and won from a strong Urbana quintet 4l to 37. Moran was outstanding in the scoring column for this game. b The Eagles journeyed over to Gibson City and handed the Greyhounds a 49 to 32 defeat. Moran. Ehler, and Sebastian were well in control of the scoring for the Eagles. Returning home, the Eagles then met two more VVauseca League opponents during the next week. The first of these was Paxton, who the Eagles beat by a score of 48 to 36 to take over first place in the VVauseca League. llfloran was the leading scorer for this game. The next victim of the Eagles was Onarga Military who took a 55 to 26 defeat. The last game for Rantoul before the Christmas holidays was at Tuscola. The Eagles continued to fly high by winning this game 52 to 44. During the holidays. Rantoul participated in the Paxton Holiday Tournament in which they took second place. In the first game, the Eagles defeated Melvin-Sibley 42 to 33. In the second game, the high flying Eagles seemingly could do no wrong as they easily defeated Armstrong 67 to 45. ln the title game, the Eagles met the powerful team from Buckley whose fast break seemed too much for Rantoul. The final score was 56 to 42. The first game of the new year was against Uni- versity High School which the Eagles easily de- feated 56 to 41. Ehler was the leading scorer for the Eagles. The 1950 lfilyfcf ,rf - . 1 The Eagles traveled to lfloopeston for a rt- gh and tumble game in which the Eagles were to be commended for their sportsmanship. Rantoul won 43 to 36. The last game that the Eagles played before the Champaign County Tournament was against Wat- seka who used a two-one-two zone and gave the Eagles quite a scare before Rantoul came out vic- torious 34 to 27. Next on the docket was the tournament. Ran- toul met Mahomet in their first game. After being almost hopelessly behind for three quarters, the Eagles staged a great fourth quarter rally but as time ran out, they were still behind three points, 35 to 38. Reviving from their defeat by Mahomet, the Eagles came back into their own and soundly de- feated Eisher, who took second -in the County Tournament, 52 to 38. Ehler, Moran, and Boblett were outstanding in the scoring colunm. The Eagles played at Danville, Schlaarman, and managed to win a close one. 4l to 36. Again, Moran took charge of the scoring with flrovier next in line. Next foe of the Eagles was l.eRoy for an out- of-conference game. Rantoul seemingly had no trouble in taking LeRoy into hand as they won 53 to 4l. Sebastian, flrovier, and Moran handled the majority of the scoring. Paxton turned the tables in the Eagles' next game as the Mustangs routed the Eagles 56 to 50 in a closely fought battle. Moran led the scoring for Rantoul while Adams was high-point man for Paxton. .-Xfter their first conference defeat of the season, the Eagles returned home to take on Ciibson City for the second time. Again the score was lopsided as Rantoul won 49 to 35. Rantoul's standing in the Wlauseca League, at the writing of this article, is first with five confer- ence wins against one loss. All the other league teams have lost at least three games, so if the Eagles continue as they have been, they should have a championship in basketball to go with the one that they won in football. 57 'fl cgi V K L 1, , if r ACTION SHOTS TRACK VARSITY TRACK The llantonl track team continued in its brilliant track showing as in the years preceding the l949 season.
