Captain ofthe '47 team, Gene Brown, was elected most valuable player. His name will be inscribed on the VVebb trophy, along with all other names of previous star Rantoul athletes. Next year's Captain will be appointed by Coach Bill VValsh at the beginning of the season. Next year they will suffer the loss of fullback Brute Martin, captain tiene Brown, guard Ces Siddens, tackle Bulldog lfhmen, and center johnny Mersereau. In the past years the liagles have had an excellent record hy winning 34 games. tying 3, and losing only 3. I.eRoy went down the drain under a Rantoul victory of 43-33. Then Hatseka heat us to a close game. 25-21. a hard fought ball game. The County Tourney was a different story this year. Rantoul heat llahomet 42-23 the tirst round, but lost to the llomer tive 33-26. liantoul took many places in the county tournament previous to this year. Traveling to Clinton. Rantoul was heaten 62-42. Going to Paxton for the second game with the rivals, we lost a hard fought decision 40-38. XYe outplayed Tuscola coming out on top 41-39. Paxton came in second with 42 points. and was followed by Xliatseka 3812, Mahomet 2912, Gibson City 21, and Farmer City l3. The relay team, which was emnposed of Don Burnett, Roh XYz1ters, 'lack Clitlord, and 'lack llerhert, won Iirst in the county and invitational meets.
