OUR HERITAGE In 88 years, Ransom has prog- ressed miraculously. At the pres- ent time the district has two good school facilities with an enroll- ment of 295 students, 22 certif- ied teachers, 1 school health nurse, 8 regular bus routes, 3 secretaries, 3 janitors, 2 hot lunch programs with 4 good cooks. 1. A reunion was held in 1935 for Clint Bistline by his former pupils in the Church of Christ where years ago he taught school. The day went just like a regular school day, and about 50 of his 230 pupils answered roll call. Ransom In 1886 the need for a school became a pressing one, so in the winter of 1886 one was held in a little sod house on the Jacob Abey farm east of Ransom. (1) Then the first school house was built in 1888. It was located at the present Grade School site. This building was used until 1902 when it was moved to be used for the Church of Christ. It is still being used. 2. In 1902 a two story stone structure, called the Grammar Room was built on the east edge of the present grade school ground. The second floor was used for high school classes with the first graduating class being from there. This building was used until 1954 when the present grade school, (3) was built. 4. In 1917 a two story high school building was built south of the present high school. (5) In 1926 an addition, consisting of a gym and classrooms, were built. In 1961 Arnold and Brownell joined Ransom and formed Dis- trict 302. (6) In 1968 the RHS students moved into a new mod- ern high school building. With the fall of 1969 all elementary students in the district, kinder- garten through sixth grades were taught at the grade school. Grades seven through twelve were taught at the high school. 7. Grade school built in 1902. 8. Bethel Country School was used until 1967. 9. Catherine Harkness was a teacher of 52 pupils in 1901 and 1902. 10. A 1913 hay ride provided traditional entertainment for the school students. 6
