In the year 1974- 1975, the Ransom boys and girls participated in 33 basketball, 9 football, and 8 volleyball games, plus a number of track meets. Sporting events are greatly enjoyed because of the effort put forth by the team and the encouragement offered by the fans. Fashions What do students wear at R.H.S.? The school was hit hard by embroidery on jackets, shirts, pants, purses, and jeans. Crazy hats, old coats, and sun glasses were wom by the Joe Cool gang. Besides all of these fads some stu- dents wore long dresses, and some wore minis. Boys and girls alike wore jeans and sweat shirts with tennis shoes. 2 In the News NIXON AND AGNEW RESIGN FORD APPOINTED PRESIDENT ROCKEFELLER APPOINTED VICE- PRESIDENT U.S. TROOPS PULLED OUT OF VIETNAM PHENOM PEN FALLS ENERGY CRISIS DEPRESSION - RECESSION WHEAT AND CATTLE PRICES DROP BENNETT NEW GOVERNOR Social Events Ransom celebrated a 1950's day on Dec. 13, 1974. Many girls wore pedal pushers and knee high socks. Others wore midi-length dresses. A lot of the girls had their hair really kinky. The boys wore white shirts and funny hair styles. To end the day Ransom had a basketball game with Jetmore. After the game there was a 1950’s dance. Walt Whitman Freshmen Enjoy New Privileges At last they have arrived; Freshmen now enjoy the privi- leges of the high school students - free home games, dances, pop during study hall, pep rallies, more course electives, clubs, and organizations. The Freshman year is the year of initiations, - Kayettes and Industrial Arts Club this year. Highlights of Kayette Ini- tiation were being awakened early and having to wear a nightgown to school all day. The Industrial Arts Initiation is so horrible, initiates refuse to tell about it. The oak dies down to the ground, leaving within its rind a rich virgin mould, which will impart a vigorous life to an infant forest. David Thoreau Sophomore s Favorite Pastime — Talking Sophomores boast the largest class in school with 33 stu- dents. Two new students coming this year were Peggi Pearson and Melinda Griffith. Shortly after the first semester we lost Pam Oliver. Nearly all sophomores are taking typing, biology, and English. Michelle Curtis probably expressed the sentiments of the class when asked her favorite pastime. Listening to records, talking she replied. Gloria Bauer. Nancy Newhall Juniors Finance Banquet and Prom The Junior Class lost two students. Sharon and Rodger Col- burn, and gained one. Jim Suppes, ending up with 23. The Junior year was spent in raising money for the Junior- Senior banquet and prom. The class earned $1020.20 selling 390 magazine subscriptions with Mark Horchem as top sales- man. Other money raising projects were football and basket- ball concessions. Parents donated sandwiches and pies. Larry Briand. The course was offered for the first time on a one-semester basis with the opportunity to re-enroll for Bookkeeping II. High- light of the course was the bookkeeping sets which simulated actual business papers and accounting books. One set was finished each semester. Mrs. Patricia Crosswhite, the teacher, stated that it was the greatest year ever for bookkeeping. When asked what they thought of bookkeeping, Debbie Triplett said, I really like it! Bev Turner replied, I'm learning a lot about keep- ing records and books. I really like it! I enjoy doing the sets. It is pretty easy. says Mark Horchem. The girls learned how to crochet, knit, and macrame. Some of the big projects were baby blan- kets, like the one on Marie Lutters’ lap, stuffed animals, tank tops, a shawl Miss Pahls is modeling, sweaters, and pillows. This one-semester course offered a big break from the more academic classes. What’s this? A girl in shop9 That’s right! Tami Zordel is the first girl to be in a boy’s shop class since 1962. ’’Mechanical Drawing is really fun. The boys are nice to me and they help me a lot,” said Tami (pictured at left). 21 SENIORS Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in. I drink at it; but while I drink I see the sandy bottom and detect how shallow it is. Its thin current slides away, but eternity remains. David Thoreau Seniors Present Royalty In the senior year the students begin thinking seri- ously about what they will be doing in the following year. Many of them are enrolled in two hours in the field in which they plan to be in later. Counting the days is the favorite pastime of seniors. The tally can be found on Mrs. Crosswhite's chalk board. One new student enrolled this year; she is Linda Walker, a married student attending half days. The senior class always furnishes the royalty. Pic- tured above is senior class royalty as presented to the English class and later to the student body in an original skit depicting a hillbilly beauty contest. We have increased our speed in addition and subtraction. Presently we are working on multiplication and division. After stuying measurement, the class made cracker jacks in which they received some practical measure- ment experiences. The cracker jacks served as a Christmas gift to their fathers. The rest of the year will be spent working on multiplication, divi- sion, geometry, and measurement. 36 Fourth Grade The fourth grade class had a unit on earth science. They are examining an exhibit of meta- morphic, igneous, and sedimen- tary rocks brought in by the pupils. Some highly unusual fos- sils were included in the collec- tion. They found the story of our own community's geologic his- tory very interesting. During his years in high school he participated in many school activities. He went out for football, basketball, track, band, and vocal all four years, and had roles in both class plays. Jim's popularity and leadership were evident in the many offices he has held - Junior Class President, R-Club President, and Student Band Director. Lion's Club sponsored him to Boys’ State in his junior year. An unusual award given him in his senior year was the Betty Crocker Homemaker Award; he is the first boy to receive it at R.H.S. A favorite was when Julie Zordel and Mic- helle Flax did their optical illusion by acting as one person. Other favorites were 1950's Day and Jim Kenworthy’s pie in the face. Even more school spirit was promoted when committees were appointed to make posters. Working on such a poster are the officers. Stand- ing are Debbie Triplett, V.
