Traditions become no more and new ways of thinking spring up to take their place. In 1973 things changed too. In the nation Bobby Fischer and Boris Spasky established chess as an international sport. The draft disappeared. Eighteen-year-olds received the right to vote in both national and local elections. Due to deaths the U.S. has no living former presidents. And the country has joyfully welcomed home the Viet Nam prisoners of war ■ In the state Governor Docking is serving an unprecedented fourth term. And at RHS A student voted in a national election. Clothing styles have become dependent on in- dividual style and taste. Trees have been planted and the grass is grow- ing in front of the school. Pom-pom Girls sponsored themselves. RHS went to the State Basketball Tournament as participants. RHS has a PURPLE room, the lounge, with flowered curtains. However even with all these changes in the nation. state, and school some things remain the same. This year. as in each of the past fifty- seven years, a class of students enter the halls of RHS as freshmen. This is a world entirely new to them - that of high school life. In the coming four years they will make friends and experiment with these friends and their clothing styles. They will examine their feelings on every subject imag- inable and come up with answers that they will find aren't always right or ture. This is a time of learning. 2 r There is also a class who will be leaving RHS for the last time as a class in May When they walk out those doors for the last time , they are ending an era in their lives and stepping upon the threshhold of a new one. They are entering a time period in which they will have to learn to face the world on their own. Some will get a job . some will go to school, and some will go into the service But no matter what they do. they will be learning to stand on their own two feet, however that may be. They will have another time of learning now but it won't be of the same kind. They will try out all the answers they came up with in high school. They will begin shaping the rest of their lives In this book we tried to tell the story of one year in the lives of the students, faculty and administration of Unified District 302. Each page unfolds something precious to one or many, and we hope you enjoy sharing our experiences, both good and bad. in this year. - Joan Briand . Editor 3 mm « ■ •. This honor is only partly due to his out- standing accomplishments in the field of athletics - football, bas- ketball, and track - but due to the fact that he is also a very nice per- son to know. Cocky at times, lie still is the student that gets his assignments and is friendly to students and fac- ulty. Being a team man is important and he often passes the ball to others even though he could easily have made the shot himself. As a track man, anyone making the effort was entitled to his encourage- ment and received it. In honor of his football accom- plishments his football jersey, number 25, has been retired from service forever at Ransom; in hon- or of his attitude, we, the annual of his attitude, we, the annual staff, name him 1973 Mr. Longhorn. 101 NOLAN CROMWELL Senior Achievements RENI JO ALBERS: Cheerleader 1,2; Class Play 3,4; Class Pres. 1; Class Vice-Pres. 3; Contest Play 2; Basketball 1,2; Girls Glee 1,2,3; Volleyball 1,2,3, 4; Football Att. 4; Kayettes 1,2,3; Mixed Chorus 1, 2,3; Pep Club 1,2,3; Salutatorian 4; Scholarship Con- test 1,2,3, 4; Pres. Longhorn Staff Good-bye From the This is the end of the 1973 Longhorn, but the story it tells doesn't stop here. It will continue for as long as there are students and faculty working together and growing here at Ransom High School. We'd like to thank all the townspeople of Ransom, Arnold, and Brownell for giving us the opportunely of attending school in a beautiful building such as we have. We'd also like to thank all our advertisers for their willingness to help us, for without their help this yearbook could not have been published. Someone else that this yearbook couldn't have been published without is our sponsor, Mrs. Patricia Crosswhite, whom we thank from the bottom of our hearts for putting in all those extra hours and all that extra work for this yearbook. As we leave for the last time this year, with the yearbook completed, we can only hope that we’ve told this year's story to its fullest and to our fullest ability. This is the end of the 1973 Longhorn, but the story goes on. Joan Briand, Editor 104
