THE LONGHORN 1968 VOL. NO. 8 RANSOM HIGH SCHOOL TAYLOR PUBLISHING CO. RANSOM, KANSAS DALLAS 1, TEXAS As we open the doors to our new high school, we open the doors to a whole new era. Looking through these doors, we, the Longhorn staff, have seen many things. We’ve seen the administration, school board, and community all working together to meet the demands of the future by pro- viding us with our new school and modem facilities. Realizing the importance of the past, we’ve seen the teacher working with the student and getting to know him. Knowing the importance of the future, the teacher is seen preparing us for that big, wide world. We’ve seen students taking part in organizations, all feeling the desire to work together and devote a little time to one common goal. We've seen ballgames—some happy, some sad--but always happening to the school as a whole. We’ve seen girls so flustered they've forgotten everything but that important date for the prom. We’ve seen boys trying their hardest to win that all important ballgame. Yes, the Longhorn staff has seen many things through our doors, and now we invite you to take a look also. We all hope you like it as well as we do. 2 To leam the languages and customs of people in other lands TABLE OF CONTENTS Administration--------- — - -- -- 5 Seniors - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - 9 Juniors------------------------------- 15 Sophomores - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- 19 Freshmen - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - 23 Elementary----------- 27 Favorites - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - -35 Organizations----------- 41 Sports - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -47 Activities - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -57 Advertising - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- 73 3 To browse, relax, and study RHS ON THE MOVE With construction nearly completed, RHS moved into its new building on February 12, Even though it was a cold, snowy day, all stu- dents pitched in to help and in no time were out of the old and into the new. The boys did the heavy moving, the girls unpacked the boxes, and everyone straightened up. The juniors, sen- iors and teachers returned the second day to fin- ish arranging the various departments. While in Oklahoma City, they also toured the Christopher Steel Co. which makes bridge girders. Homeward bound they stopped in Wichita and visited the Wichita Police Department. Entertainment was provided by Arlene McFall, Kenny Schweitzer, and Stan Fairbank, each singing a solo. An eight piece show band. The Shadows of Blue, provided the music for the prom. As the school year comes to a close, we take one long, last look and recall all the memorable moments that happened to us during a wonderful year at Ransom High School. Even though things didn’t always work out as planned and there were many heartbreaking moments, we have made it beautifully. Now as we. the LONGHORN staff, close the doors to our school for the last time, we remember all those heartbreaking but yet rewarding moments we spent putting our book” together. As we each go our own way, not knowing whether happiness or sorrow will cross our paths, we know we can always look back into our senior pub- lication and simply say, Thanks for the memory! 88
