His work as an instructor has been intelligent and well done--he also displays a rare sense of hurnor, and above all his belief in the co- operative spirit will make him one of our first and finest memories of R. The theme was The Gay Nineties. Leona Landwehr, Joy Mishler, and Audrey Smith helped with the serving. Dick Horchem, Dick Scott, Gerald Hilmes and Marvin Hilmes were Waite rs. The following guests were present: Mr. and Mrs. Martin Schreiber Junior and Senior Classes Mr. and Mrs. Rutschman Mr, and Mrs. Buxton Miss Barber MENU Tomato Juice Beef Birds Mr. and Mrs. Jess Dieifenbach Mr. and Mrs. Bill Scott Mr. and Mrs. Lippert Miss Robinson Miss Dirks Mashed Potatoes Gravy Buttered Peas Jello Salad Hot Rolls Butter and Jelly ' Che r ry Sundae Coffee CLASS HISTORY The Senior Class of '48 started out in their Freshman year with Z8 mem- bers. They were: Betty See, Violet Kraft, Joan Hilmes, Wilma Scott, Vera Schrei- ber, Dorothy Durr, Marilyn Farmer, Gloria Stowe, John Akers, Laura Fairbank, Delores Roth, Anna Mae Friess, Ruth Musselman, Harold Hilmes, Dorothy Kaiser, James Hilmes, Russell Klitzke, Glenn McKenzie, Dale Rauch, Adam Stricker, Laverne Glazier, Walter Zordel, Jr., Wayne Van Horn, Hugo Kohl, Meril David- son, Edgar Zordel, and Keith Charles. When we were initiated in our Freshman year we had to wear our clothes to school that day wrong side out and backwards and go barefoot. The night of initia- tion we had to do many ridiculous things such as push a peanut down the Gym floor and back with our nose, and feed each other syrup with a spoon. We had to sweep the Gym floor with a toothbrush. These and many other things we did for the a- musement of the upper-classmen. When we started in our Sophomore year the following had dropped: Meril Davidson had moved to Utica, Hugo Kohl started to the Ness City High School, Dor- othy Kaiser went to school at Lakin and Keith Charles moved to California. This then left a total of Z4 members out of the Z8 which we started with in our Fresh- man year. Nothing of special interest happened during this year as we just did the general Sophomore routine of school work. By the time our Junior year rolled around John Akers had moved and De- lores Roth had quit school and that left the class with ZZ members. This year the class put on the play, The Ghost Parade . They had Ghosts parading around and thunder that sounded almost like the real thing. We started our Senior year with Z2 members which was the same number as we had in the Junior year. The members which will graduate are: Betty See, Vera Schreiber, Violet Kraft, Wilma Scott, Dorothy Durr, Joan Hilmes, Marilyn Farmer, Gloria Stowe, Laura Fairbank, Dale Rauch, Anna Mae Friess, Ruth Musselman, Harold Hilrnes, James Hilrnes, Russell Klitzke, Adam Stricker, Walter Zordel, Jr., Wayne Van Horn and Edgar Zordel, The Senior Class play was The Three Old Maid Aunts and they were typ- ical old maids too. The main event in our Senior year was our Sneak trip to Den- ver, Colorado. This completes the brief history of this graduating class of 1948. Some of the class will go on to college, some are getting married, some are teaching school and the rest will remain at home for the present to assist with the various duties of the farm. .U 1. M, and arrived in Denver at 1:30 P. M. After arriving in Denver we went to the United States Mint at two o'clock and then to the Roosevelt Hotel which was to be our home while we were in Denver. We were assigned our rooms and after fresh- ening up a bit we went to the City Park where we saw one of the largest Zoos in this part of the country. On this same trip we visited the City Museurn which is the finest of its kind in the United States. We then went back to the Hotel and by this time it was high time to eat. We all went to a cafeteria where tables had been reserved for us by the manager of the Roosevelt Hotel. After supper we all went back to the Hotel to rest a little before going to a show The Unconquered this is the show that the producer Cecil D'Mille said was his best production. This fin- ished our activities for Friday. We were all up and had our breakfasts and were ready to go to the K. O. A. Radio Broadcasting Station by 7 o'clock on Saturday morning. We heard Happy Jack Turner broadcast. He also played three numbers, just for our group, which was not broadcasted. One of the engineers then gave us a fine detailed explanation of the mechanics of the Control room in the Broadcasting Station which was very interesting as well as instructive. We went from K. O. A. to the Capitol Building. Here we saw the Senate and House of Representative rooms and went up to the bal- cony around the dome from which we took pictures of the city. We had now planned to visit the Denver Post but on going there learned that another school group was to be taken on tour of the building at 1:30, so we had to wait until then too. As we had time before lunch we went via our bus to the Airport and saw big Passenger planes come in and take off also large Cargo planes come in. By the time we got back to Denver it was lunch time. After lunch we again met at the Hotel and walked to the Post building where after many interruptions, on account of a large Army parade, we arrived at 1:30. A guide took us through the building where we saw the Sunday Denver Post being printed. We had left our bus parked on a street which would be the one to lead us out of Denver to the Red Rocks. Well, we all thought we knew which street would lead us to the bus but after going, say, five blocks one way and two some other, a time or so, we asked a policeman and he told us to go back five or six blocks ------- we eventually found the bus and were on our way. The drive was beautiful and some of the girls sang in the Natural Amphatheater, while the rest climbed through the nat- ural tunnels, etc., after about an hour we left for Lookout Mountain where we saw Buffalo Bi1l's Grave, and had a fine view of the surrounding mountains and Denver in the distance. We returned to Denver about 6:30 After our evening meal each person went to a show or whatever he chose and then back to the Hotel by 10:00 o'clock. Sunday morning we left for Colorado Springs. We had anticipated having a lovely mountain drive but it stormed almost all the way. After a short stop we started for Ransom, arriving about 10:30, a tired but happy group. JUNIOR HIGH CLASS HISTORY The Eighth Grade Class of 1948 consisting of seventeen members began in September 1940 at the Ransom Grade School, with six of its present members who are the following: Robert Hilmes, Rex Horchem, Francis Horning, Tom Neyer, Virginia Mishler, and Mary Elizabeth Schweitzer. In the Second year Bernard Friess, Hilda Mai, James and Esther Mussel- man, joined our class. This same year Tom Neyer dropped out, having moved away. September 1942 finds us again in school with one new meinbe r, Roger Allen, leaving our number the same g as Hilda Mai dropped out, going back to country school. Our Seventh year of school found us with four new members who were Ar- lene Hilmes, Joan Randall, Clariee Schneider, and Hilda Mai who again joined us. In the present year we havefthree new members who are Rosanne Luetters, Billy Dean Scott, and Mamie Zordel. We started the Primary year under Miss Leora Bentley. We finished our Fifth and Sixth Grade under Miss Bessie Rogers. I wonder if Miss Rogers ever found out who the deep Bass voice was in Music Class. In our Seventh year we wandered all over the High School as we had no Home Room. This year, however, we had a. Home Room with Miss Hazel Barber as our teacher, Some of the Social events of the present year were a Picnic, a Skating Party a Sneak day at Hays, and a lovely Lawn Party given by Mrs. Netta Curry. Now, we are ready to graduate from Junior High School so make room for us because here we come Seventeen strong.
