It is remarkably fitting that you should have chosen the theater as the theme for your EXCELON. A class with so much ability is dramatic, to watch and to work with; and, like a good play, your Everglades story has been filled with suspense from your lively beginning, through your minor crises, to the climax this year. You have given us scholar- ship, leadership, thoughtfulness and gaiety which we value highly and shall miss sorely. But before the curtain falls on your drama here and we wish you Godspeed in the parts you will play on new stages, let us turn to the review ofyour performance preserved in this record. La-dees and Gen-tulmen! Withenduring affection and admiration I give you the flower of our philosophy andfinesse, EVERGLADES' CLASS OF 1963! 4 ?mome

The Excelon staff, in appreciation of her untiring efforts and constantthoughtfulness, takes pleasure in dedicating this edition to MissGrace M. Cole. Throughout her years at Everglades, she has beenamainstay at the school, giving generously of her many versatile talents and serving unselfishly whenever and wherever there was need. Miss Cole has been a part of so many phases of school life that it is hard to associate her with any single area of activity. She has been a sustaining influence in leading us along the paths of learning, charting our course with her wise counsel and en- couraging us when the way seemed difficult. We will always remember her as the English teacher who taught us to love literature and to appreciate thevalue of a well-chosen word. Nor can we forget her wonderful work as administrative as- sistant in keeping our busy schedules running smoothly. But perhaps she is best remembered as we see her among the books she loves so well. Here in the library, she works with constant devotion, helping to organize our ever increasing wealth of books and bringing to each girl a greater knowledge and love for our library. Miss Cole's quiet charm and willingness to help at any time have won her the devotion of all who know her. She is never too busy to listen, to understand, and to assist us. No one can for- get the friendly smile and cheery words which have so often brightened the days of her students nor the helping hand which she has extended, especially to those in the lower grades. Her infinite patience and understanding interest in their personal problems have given them the assistance they needed to bridge the difficult gap between elementary and junior high school. As she lives the words of our creed daily, Miss Cole has in- deed been an inspiration to all of us. What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness ? -- Rousseau
