Cole. Throughout her years at Everglades, she has beenamainstay at the school, giving generously of her many versatile talents and serving unselfishly whenever and wherever there was need. Miss Cole has been a part of so many phases of school life that it is hard to associate her with any single area of activity. She has been a sustaining influence in leading us along the paths of learning, charting our course with her wise counsel and en- couraging us when the way seemed difficult. We will always remember her as the English teacher who taught us to love literature and to appreciate thevalue of a well-chosen word. Nor can we forget her wonderful work as administrative as- sistant in keeping our busy schedules running smoothly. But perhaps she is best remembered as we see her among the books she loves so well. Here in the library, she works with constant devotion, helping to organize our ever increasing wealth of books and bringing to each girl a greater knowledge and love for our library. Miss Cole's quiet charm and willingness to help at any time have won her the devotion of all who know her. She is never too busy to listen, to understand, and to assist us. No one can for- get the friendly smile and cheery words which have so often brightened the days of her students nor the helping hand which she has extended, especially to those in the lower grades. Her infinite patience and understanding interest in their personal problems have given them the assistance they needed to bridge the difficult gap between elementary and junior high school. As she lives the words of our creed daily, Miss Cole has in- deed been an inspiration to all of us. What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness ? -- Rousseau It is remarkably fitting that you should have chosen the theater as the theme for your EXCELON. A class with so much ability is dramatic, to watch and to work with; and, like a good play, your Everglades story has been filled with suspense from your lively beginning, through your minor crises, to the climax this year. You have given us scholar- ship, leadership, thoughtfulness and gaiety which we value highly and shall miss sorely. But before the curtain falls on your drama here and we wish you Godspeed in the parts you will play on new stages, let us turn to the review ofyour performance preserved in this record. La-dees and Gen-tulmen! Withenduring affection and admiration I give you the flower of our philosophy andfinesse, EVERGLADES' CLASS OF 1963! 4 ?mome 973 759 Garfdz'n Of1962 Z093 gaging 719 91-119 1:91 019 931-1 790m 975 Junior Wnofersfuag'es. It is composed of officers, elected prefects, team captains, and the senior class President. It is alink between the Student Body and the Administration. Through this small, but workable unit, the common interests of the Student Body and the Administration can be discussed and solutions found for the many problems which arise during the school year. It is also instrumental in maintaining established traditions, interpreting Everglades policies andprocedures, charting high standards of individual conduct and self discipline, andpromoting harmonious relations throughout the entire school. Because of its limited size, some of the more complex problems which perhaps otherwise would fail to receive due attention in the larger Student Council can be easily resolved by the Advisory Board. Thus, this small unit proves its worth as a valuable asset of the School Administration. Under the guidance of the editors, Carol Norton and Dru Par- sons, the school newspaper, ECHOES, con- tinues to be the eyes and ears of the school, reporting on special events and presenting ageneralpicture of school life. This year's staff has carried the ECHOES to new heights never before achieved. Hard work, a high standard of policy, and the content of the paper are the reasons for some of the best editions the student body has ever read. It is graded by hand by an impartial board of examiners, and about, 46,000 students compete. We have partici- pated for three years and three of our girls, who qualified by having almost perfect papers, received medal pin awards. When any school has won three of these medal pins, it receives the handsome engraved trophy for outstanding scholarship in Latin shown here. Marnette: You said it. ToniField really knows her business when it comes to dental hygiene - but beware of her when she has a novocaine needle in her hand! Greta; All of you have to see Bev Brown in the Mikado at Carnegie Hall! Sandy: I know, he's simply wonderful! Greta: He! Sandy: Yes, she's playing opposite Marlon Brando in his first singing role! Dru: Laura Peterson is at the Hall also. There have been reports that her music sets the Hall vi- brating like a Model T Ford. Judy: She has quite a concert. While playing Liszt with one hand, she writes hate letters in the style of Cicero with the other. Just then Hannah, Beth and Connie come running in completely exhausted. Sally K.: What's up? Connie: Well, we were pacing along at a trot through Lever Brothers all glass office building, when sud- denly we crashed into the annex which Linda Davies had designed. Beth: Then we saw Lucy Van Devere dash from her law office after an ambulance which was going down Park Avenue. We went to Lucy's office to see what it looked like and there we found Judy Maichin, secretary for a child psychiatrist, Darrow Dutcher, calling Thelma Gabler, who is a nurse for a bite specialist. Hannah: She wanted to inform her that Darrow was racing madly to see her for she had been mortally wounded on the index finger by an irate youngster, one of Ana's numerous children. Barbie: Hey, that'sfunny. I just spoke to Judy Walker recently; she's working with juvenile delinquents in New York. Dorothy: That's some column Susan Baxter has in the paper. She's become another Sylvia Porter; has columns in all the important papers with advice on the ups and downs of the market and how to make the best of them. Gladys: Caramba, she even has one in the Caracas paper! Sally B.: Would someone like to come with me to Kentucky? Ginsie: What for? Sally B.: lwant to see Sue Hammond ride a horse that was sold to her by Kris Embry, who is now a horse breeder in Kentucky. She is going to attempt to win the Kentucky Derby for the second consecu- tive year. Ginsie: No, thanks. I'm going to Barnard College to take some language lessons from Leslie Lavigne. She's learned every language she possibly could, including the Eskimo language. However, it is said that she can be found every afternoon in Professor Cathy Phillips' room trying once again to master the English language. J ust then Bunny and Robin walked in with some cartoon sketches in their hands. Bunny: These are by Mariann Williams. We saw her signing them for people and asked her if she would sign ours. I Robin: She toldus that the History of Art course had impressed Pauline Rowe so much that she now may be found in her skin-diving outfit chipping away at pieces of stone on the buildings of the Lost City of Atlantis. Lorna: Here's alast bit of news. Sue Stokely has gone into sociology and is in charge of planning slum clearance in Bal Harbour, Miami Beach. Charlene: She has been removing all houses of less value than $50,000. PRODUCERS1 H ND ' DIREETDRSJa Trustees Administrators Faculty Staffs Gertrude C. Peirce Headmistress 714113119623 Mr. T. T.
