This time we sent Calvin Hubbell, Karl Leach, and Nyla Mueller to the council, As other crews lose members so did we, We lost Shirley Johnson and David Nelson To begin the second half of our trip we chose new officers. Karl Leach was elected captain and Arnold Wilkens first mate Nyla Mueller kept the log up-to-date and Betty Kunce recorded our pieces of eight Our council representatives were Karl Leach Lona Snyder and Philip Starr As Karl Leach was captured by the Hoopeston fleet his duties were taken over by first mate Arnold Wilkens and Ted Erghner was chosen as new first mate As Karl was also a member of the council we replaced him with Arnold We had a great deal of trouble keeping our crew SIHCC Arnold preferred the land to the sea we had to have another captain Ted was promoted from first mate to captain and Martin Clementz filled the first mate vacancy For the replacement 1n the council we elected Ted The fourth quarter of our voyage was begun with 23 buccaneers A few days after starting we lost Grace Troxel who found the sea life too hard but to fill that vacancy Andy Hartman Joined the crew We re elected Ted Erghner as captain and chose Ed Frrchtl as first mate Betty Kunce kept the log and Marjorie recorded the pieces of e t Our council representatives for this last quarter of our trip were Winifred Mall man Martin Clementz and Ted Erghner The crew was kept very busy this quarter since we had to publish a paper every thref weeks and prepare a book of memories of the four ships of the fleet Later in the quarter we attended a dance and banquet in our honor sponsored by the crew which was to take over the leadership of the fleet As we now felt certain of reaching our goal we took a vacation to experience t e life of a landlubber After we retumed to the ship a ceremony was held which ended our first search for education x fm All-we N' 'Mm' X Ylffhijlv L ,se xl.,- igh I ,, . . . . . . - . .
