T H S The senlors soon knocked us off our buckrng broncs wtth Freshmen ln1t1at1on As soon as our sponsors could get us corralled we chose loan Holqurst as head foreman Bonnre Olson as her assrstant Wendell Starr bookkeeper and Allen Watson paymaster Two of our cowpokes couldn t keep pace so they dropped off the crew leavrng us shorthanded wtth only twenty four hands After havlng our summer vacauon rn the west at Dully s Dumb Dude Ranch we started back to school tn 1949 w1th nrneteen podners Thrs berng our Sophomore year we were now one year older and could no longer be called tenderfeet Our leaders for thts year were soon elected Carl Schaeffer foreman B111 Cox asstst ant foreman Marvln Hofer bookkeeper and Allen Watson treasurer Th1s year we lost four and gatned two After takmg a very short vacatxon rn the Lone Star State we entered the bunkhouse wrth elghteen Jumor cowpokes on our payroll Mrs Hurt and Mr Schwartz were our Donna Jo Swanson clerk and Ioan Holqurst paymaster Four of our hands left the ranch leavlng the gang shorthanded agam wlth only srxteen Later 1n the year Ellen Hoveln from Armstrong Jomed us and Phylhs Lynch was trans ferred from the Loda crew makrng the gang seventeen Our socral BCIIVIIICS cltmaxed when we threw a bxg shtndtg at Champalgn for the Semors You tenderfeet would call rt the Iunror Senror Prom Thls year work was started on our new ranch bu1ld1ng a modern bunkhouse w1th four teen rooms and a large gymnastum The latest rumor of course was that perhaps our graduatron exercrses next year could be held rn the new audrtorrum Our last year of bemg corralled fwe hopej was one chucked full of work and act1v1t1es Our bosses were Mrss Morgan and Mr McCarty Th1s year we chose as our head fore man Marllyn Nelson Ruby Maskal asslstant Ellen Hoveln bookkeeper and Barbara Padgett paymaster Carl Schaeffer headed the student councll as presxdent w1th Nancy Behrens and Allen Watson as representattves bosses. S' N08 'N DN Q 1 79 Many thrngs took our rnrnds off our darly chores as we undertook several Jobs rn order to rarse funds for our spree rn the sprrng Skrp Day Some of these rncluded sellrng assorted and Chrrstmas cards statxonery class prns and even pencrls Each month we also sponsored a movre Our band leader Don Zrmrnerman roped rn several dudes to help make musrc Prac trce for a fall concert was soon begun and OLII program was grven 1n November Other concerts rncluded a Chrrstmas program and a performance at Potomac Hrgh School Before the year ended our drrector entered us 1n contest work We also put mto crrculatron a bulletrn contarnrng the news of the ranch The staff went to press every three weeks and xssued a srx page paper called The Broadcaster Our brggest publrcatron was the seventeenth edrtron of the annual The Mrrror We chartered a bus for our Skrp Day tr1p ln May and our class sponsors accompanred us on a most dehghtful two days trrp mrles away from ranch lrfe All our hard work rarsmg funds for thts trlp was payrng off at last Upon our return we were lassoed rnto last mrnute preparatrons for Baccalaureate Servrces on May 18 and a rehearsal of our class mght program slated for May 19 Our programs were attended by a capacrty crowd That all rmportant date frnally arrrved graduatron exercrses and we all thought we would really be most happy but xt was a very solemn affarr The musrc the atmos phere and the formal ature of caps and gowns made the occasron one well to remember Soon we knew we d be on our way to seek a career of success whrch we must burld for ourselves CLASS COLOR Green and Gold CLASS FLOWER Rose AT A TIM A srav E ' 1 11 T1 1 ,Q .b . . , . .
