. . . and, in case you haven't noticed , those were our seniors on the preceding page with a portion of our town in the background. Our Town, being built as it is down the sides of a plateau that gradually slopes down in creases and then sort of spreads out on the basin floor, is difficult to photograph all at once. So, as you travel through this book, you 'll see snapshots of other parts of Rankin and the sur- rounding countryside that you can't see or recognize from the end -sheet photograph. Of course, we won 't be able to show every part of Our Town and its beautiful semi-arid countryside. For instance, if we were to see Mr. and Mrs. Racoon and cute family about to cross the Crane Highway at midnight again, chances are we wouldn't have our camera. Neither did we have our camera the day that big buck and two does crossed the Midland Highway and gracefully leaped the pasture fence. It is not likely that we will be able to get a picture of these wild turkeys that roost not too far from the city limits. We probably won't catch that sun quietly sinking into those fluffy grey clouds hovering above King Mountain either. Nor is it likely that we will get a picture of everybody's own favorite spot or person. We '11 just do the best we can and apologize to the rest of you folks. We of the Red Devil Annual staff hope you enjoy looking at Our Town as we see it - the kids, some old folks, the countryside, the local drugstore, and . . . Sincerely yours , Www Sharon Helms Editor-in-chief 'll Ip I -TRQQA' Q 'eng Q 1, i I 9 4, Barrett Day Haynes Hurst Followell Green Pippen Ramirez
