We, the Class of 1986, dedicate the Tattler to Harry and Zelda Clark. Harry and Zelda, your genuine interest in and concern for education has helped to motivate us to do our best. We appreciate the time you’ve so unselfishly given to the Rangeley Lakes Regional School students, for both class and school projects. Thank you for traveling all those miles to cheer us on at athletic events across the state. You are a couple of very nice people and as we step forward to accept the laurels for our accomplishments, we need to remember ... without people like Harry and Zelda Clark we would not be standing in the winner’s circle. Johnson (Mgr.), The Rangcley High School Ski Team enjoyed a busy 1985-86 season. Despite January rains, we managed to get in 7 cross-country and 8 alpine regular season races. In cross-country Rangeley hosted, upon various occasions, the following schools: Jay, Maranacook, Mt. Abram, Mt. Blue and Winthrop. In alpine we hosted at Saddleback Mountain these schools: Greenville, Lake Region, Liver- more Falls, Maranacook, and Mt. Blue. The season ended with Rangeley hosting all 16 of the Class B schools for the State Ski Championships held at Saddleback Mountain, Ski Nordic Touring Center and Rangeley High School. A new event added this year to the state championship was the 3X4 cross-country team relay. This event was held on the new cross country circuit behind the school. As the last event of the state meet it provided an exciting end to the ’85-’86 season. Senior Erin McGarvey was ski meister for combined overall best skier. Seniors leaving the team are Erin McGarvey and Greg Roy. 33 FRONT ROW (1 to r): K. Morton, C. Collins (co-capt.), K. Simpson (co-capt.). BACK ROW: Coach Powers. Coach Clark, S. Webber. S. Muscarella, L. Kerr, L. Brooks, N. Lowell, M. Roth (Manager). First year coach. Matt Clark, had a good season as the Lady Lakers ended their season with all-7 record and a trip to the Western Maine Tournaments. They made it through the quarterfinals with a win against Greater Portland Christian School 44-39. Then in the semi-finals the Lady Lakers were defeated by Buckficld 61-42. This year the team was led by Senior Captain Carole Collins, scoring 288 points averaging 18 points per game. Senior Kim Morton totaled 110 points for the season and solid rebounding all year. Also Kelly Simp- son, Junior Captain, scored 180 points for the season and was our defensive specialist. The Lady Lakers will be losing two seniors next year — Carole Collins and Kim Morton. Both girls had a great season and will be missed next year. 34 Best Wishes from all of us at: Mike’s Sports Pub and Grub FRONT ROW (I lo r): G. Bean. S. Knight. D. Annis. E. Washington, E. The 1985-86 boys varsity basketball season was a very rewarding year for the Rangeley Lakers. After finishing the previous year with a 1 and 15 record and a trip to the Western Maine Tournaments. Despite a 70-49 loss to Oak-Grove Coburn at the Augusta Civic Center, 1 was very pleased that our Seniors ahd the opportunity to experience the tournament atmosphere. Also, the experience for the underclassmen should be helpful if we can return to the tournaments next year. Senior center Larry Washington led the team with 298 points and a 16.6 scoring average. Larry had a superb season as he also totaled 202 rebounds for a 11.2 average per game. Larry hit season high scoring honors with 36 and 37 point games on consecutive games against Isleboro. Senior forward Shawn Kelly averaged 8.2 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per contest. His best game came at Jackman where he scored 19 points and hauled down 19 rebounds. Senior guard Erin McGarvey was our top defensive player and a good leader on the floor. McGarvey was second on the team in steals and assists. Glen Bean, another Senior guard, came off the bench to play an important role for us. His quick 7 points in the 4th quarter of a game against A.R. Gould broke open the game for us. Lincoln “The Chief’ Haines, our 6'6 Senior enforcer, led the team with 15 blocked shots. His best game came at North Haven when he scored 10 points, 12 rebounds, and block- ed 4 shots. My only Junior, Dennis Thibault came off the bench and gave us quality minutes rebounding, also hit the shot of the year at a home game, from just inside the halfcourt line. Sophomore guard Stacy Knight averaged 12 points per game and led the team with 85 assists and 37 steals. Another Sophomore guard, Chris Hughes, averaged 12.6 points per game and had his best game in a victory over North Haven when he scored 33 points, ripped down 17 rebounds and had 7 assists. Gaining valuable playing time throughout the year were Freshmen Darren An- nis, Fred Ross, and Erin Washington. Darren gave us some quality minutes off the bench and late in the season as a starter, both rebounding and scoring. Erin has showed that he can put the ball in the hoop and is an offensive threat while Fred, at 6'3 will be counted on next year as our big man in the middle. Thirteen years since school day one, It wasn’t always perfectly done. Through all the joy and many tears We look back at all those years Filled with friendship, pure and good, A light shines bright where darkness stood. Remember the day when off we went Amid the smiles of encouragement? Your little ones were on their own. And now stand dressed in cap and gown. Growing pains of then and now Have caused to deepen your furrowed brow. We passed from childhood into teens And the problems grew, or so it seems. For scholastic ability, stands this parchment But not as a sign of our detachment From you the ones we hold most dear. We honor now those who have no peers. Our Parents. By. R. S.
