This year a new course has been incorporated in the high school curriculum Dr1ver Educatton lt is being taught after school hours under the guidance of Mrs Havey The course is designed to teach the student not only how to drive but also the correct and safe way to drive There are fourteen students enrolled Before receiving a drrver s permtt each must have learned the various parts of a car including the functlon of each and must have a knowledge of the motor vehicle laws of the State Sportsmanship at the wheel rs a combination of responsibility fatr play and courtesy If one rs given the privilege of driving one must respect the rights of other drivers and those of pedestrians Each year between thirty frve and forty thousand people are killed in traffic accidents Perhaps by the good example shown by the various stu dents in Driver Education courses all over the nation this figure may be greatly reduced So let s support the course and follow the golden rule of the highway Drive as you would have others drive safely' A new installation in our gym is an electric scoreboard a gift to the school from has fulfilled a hope we have had ever since neighboring schools installed their boards Our Western Maine Championship banner along with the scoreboard have greatly helped to boost our morale and our playing spirit We would like to emphasize the importance of the plans now being formulated by Rangeley s Building Committee We hope everyone will become alerted to the urgent necessity for enlarging our present inadequate facilities We urge everyone to examine the layouts of the proposed new school buildings Another innovation this year is the formation of a Band Members are from the Rangeley School at large and several different instruments are represented Under the d1rect1on ot Mr Flag of Strong rehearsals are conducted every Friday from morning until night The disconcerting cacophony that emanates from the gym during this weekly effort will all be forgiven when the group is finally molded into a harmonious whole We are assured this desired goal will be realized by Memorial Day' We hope that this 1n1t1al effort will attract more and more mustcally inclined pupils so that R. l-I S can be assured of always havlng a Band in the future Agnes Haines 58 Sally Sandstrom 59 Editors Sponsored by RANGELEY S LORING S STUDIO Hunt and Wilbur Photographers for the QUIMBY GIFT SHOP and Seniors and the Tattler GAS STATION 0 o Mr. Page Sharp, Director of Camp Waya-Awi, lnc.
