GALLOPING GI-IOST Activities The Student Council is the governing body of Braintree - Randolph Union High School. There are fifteen members in the council including the class presidents, a boy and a girl representative from each classg a council president, who is always a seniorg the principal, and a faculty ad- visor. It is the duty of the council to solve problems confronting the students, besides sponsoring the annual dramatics, sports, debating, Galloping Ghost Gazette, and many other activities. Among the activities this year were the magazine drive, polio drive, several assemblies, the Dedication Dance, the Safety Education Committee, and Courtesy Week. The council also sponsored a student to go to the United Nations Assembly in New York. This year the debating team participated in 93 separate debates. Out of these the team. had 36 wins and 50 losses and there were debates in which there was no decision. The Braintree - Randolph Union High School novice team placed first in the state novice tournament, while the varsity was third in the varsity tournament. The topic this year was, Resolved That the Federal Government Should Adopt the Basic Principles of the Brannon Plan. Several of the debaters gave an exhibition debate before the Woman's Club. The graduating seniors are Sheila Whitney and For- rest Manning. The Building Patrol is made up of senior girls who volunteer to help with school duties. Their advisor this year was Mrs. Perry, and Alice Battles was elected captain with the duty of supervising the girls and mak- ing sure they were always at their post. The duties of the girls were to keep order in the halls and stairs, and to help in the principal's oiiice. Dramatics this year began with the play, given by the seniors, called Off The Trackj' which was directed by Miss Bates. The club for dramatics chose anew name, after many suggestions, and is now known as The Hollywoodersf' The Hollywoodersv put on two plays in assembly for the entertainment of the students. Braintree - Randolph Union High School entered the District One-Act Play Contest with a drama, Mooncalf Mugfordf' The carnival plays included: lf Girls Asked Boys For Dates, a comedy put on by the freshmen, Bobby Sox, a comedy by the sopho- moresg One of Us, a mystery drama presented by the juniorsg and The Informer, a drama put on by the seniors. The vocal department of Braintree - Randolph Union High School is under the direction of Miss Mesh. This year, four members of the chorus attended music festivals out of Vermont.
