The Jackets defeated the powerful Generals, 8-O. The 1964 football season began with a new head coach, a new assistant coach, and only two se- niors on the squad. The team faltered on occa- sion, as a team predominated by sophomores and freshmen will, and managed to compile only a 3- 6 record. However, this does include a cherished 8-0 win over the Washington 81 Lee Generals which ended an extended drought of losses inflicted by this small college toughie. The season started on a losing note, as one of the top small college teams in the nation, Sus- quehanna, handed a 42-0 defeat to the Jackets. The W 81 L triumph followed, but after that it was just a case of too much inexperience among the young gridders. Arch-rival Hampden- Sydney continued its mastery over the Jackets in football, as they won at Death Valley, 20-O. The season was not without its individual standouts, however, as several players were named to all-conference teams. Bill Baumeister, soph. co-captain, was chosen to the first team All Mason-Dixon and first team All Virginia Small College. joining the lanky tackle from Tennessee on the two first teams was Junior center Dave
