When one leaves a school he leaves behind some- thing more than the campus and a space he hopes will be taken by a youngster eager to grow, to learn, and to be a creditable part of his school. Being a part of a school is one thing, but being a constructive part is another. To come with the wind and depart with the tide gains one nothing. Have we seniors measured up fully to the requirements, and are we leaving behind a proper example? We hope so. Randolph-Macon has, among others, a noteworthy obligation to shape its students into effective citizens. In the process, it wields a sculptor's agile and clever hand to mold a boy's character. Yet to create a work of art, even a top-flight sculptor must have good clay, suitable material with which to work. As we, the Class of ,59, take a glance into the past, we might ask our- selves, l'Were we quality material? lndividually, and together, did We return the grip when Randolph-Macon extended its hand? Will the future prove us construc- tive parts of society?,' We hope so. These are the thoughts the seniors have expressed to me, and leave with the underclasses. ln behalf of the 1959 seniors, l think it appropriate to say here that they hope, as they pass this significant turning point in their lives, to continue to cultivate the desire Randolph-Macon nurtured in them for good char- acter, wisdom and maturity. The pages following will give you a glimpse of the seniors' final year-one more piece in their background for attaining this goal. JACK CHATFIELD .3 , ggi 1 4 . x 5 2 A J 1 Q t Tribute ..
