SPYING CN Randolph High School held its Homecoming on October 3, 1986. Kelly Thelen and Ann Nannen were crowned King and Queen at the dance following a 12-0 loss to Neligh. The theme of the dance was “That Was Then, This Is Now” by the Monkees. Music was furnished by Stanton Sound. Spirit Week started on Tuesday with Toga Day. Wednesday was Singer Look-A-Like Day and Thursday was Initiation. The boys dressed as Cabbage Patch Dolls with bottles and diapers; and the girls were dressed as Ronald McDonald, with clown faces, red hair, and over-sized shoes. The winners of The Best Dressed Contest were Jason Speer and Nikki Schnell. Runners up were Brent Berner and Pam Gubbels. Spirit Week ended with Friday being Red and White Day. At the Pep Rally at the end of the school day a lot of school spirit was shown. Dancing the night away. Royal Dance Michelle McLain crowning King Kelly Thelen. HONORARY CHAPTER FARMER AWARD-Arlen and Kathy Biernbaum. CHAPTER FARM DEGREES-Scott Biernbaum, Jim Eddie, Brian Gubbels, Jim McCarthy, Glen Morrison, Tim Polenske, John Rohloff, and Dean Wattier. MUSIC AWARDS-Band found on pages 40 and 41, and Chorus found on pages 38 and 39. VOLLEYBALL AWARDS-Most Valuable Player-Marci Moser, Most Inspirational Player-Ann Nan-nen and Lisa Kint, Hustler Award-Marci Moser, Most Improved Varsity Player-Brenda Meyer, Most Improved Reserve Player-Valerie McDonald, Most Improved Freshman Player-Lynn Lack-as. Captains were Marci Moser, Patti Milander, and Lisa Kint. HIGHEST GRADE POINT in Algebra l-Pam Gubbels, Algebra ll-Amy Alderson. BOYS STATE-John Keifer, GIRLS STATE-Valerie McDonald. ART AWARDS-Outstanding Creativity in Art l-ll-Jami Riedel, Kristie Borst, Jim Scott, and Lisa Kint. Honorable Mention in Art 1-Joey Bermel, Holly Heegle, Brian Lyon, Traci Tunink, and Heidi Heegle. FHA Outstanding Members-LeAnn Rhode, Stephanie Brunssen, Staci Nordhues, and Patti McCarthy. FOOTBALL AWARDS-Most Valuable Player-Kelly Thelen, All-State Punter-Chuck Gubbels, Most Improved Player-James Hilkemann. BOYS BASKETBALL AWARDS-found on pages 54 55. RETIREMENT HONOR-The Randolph Public School Board presented Phyllis Thieman with a plaque honoring her career in teaching. Phyllis taught at Randolph for 16 years (1971-1987) out of her 23 years of teaching. TEACHER OF THE YEAR-Randolph Education Association selected Deb Green as 1986-87 Teacher of the Year. A graduate of Wayne State College, Miss Green has taught at Randolph since 1978 and is presently teaching Kindergarten. JP. high AWARDS JUNIOR HIGH PRESIDENTIAL ACADEMIC FITNESS AWARDS-Vanessa Brunssen, Brandon Cufte, Melinda Dickes, Mike Jones, Ramsey Lewis, Julie Rogers. Stacy Reineke. CEDAR COUNTY ANNUAL SPELLING BEE-Becky Gubbels finished 16th, Ramsey Lewis 9th, Sherri Wittier 7th and Jason Loberg 2nd. Twenty-eight seventh and eighth grade students representing seven school districts in Cedar County attended the third annual Cedar County Spelling Bee. INDUSTRIAL ARTS-SEVENTH GRADE-Best Wood Project-Troy Leiting. Outstanding IA Student-Clint Alderson. EIGHTH GRADE-Best Wood Project-Chad Winkelbauer. Best Drafting Student-Mike Jones. Outstanding IA Student-Chad Winkelbauer. PHYSICAL EDUCATION-SEVENTH GRADE-Most Improved-Jenny Groen. Outstanding PE Student-Brenda McDonald. EIGHTH GRADE-Most Improved-Lynn Jensen.
