RETIREMENT HONOR-The Randolph Public School Board presented Phyllis Thieman with a plaque honoring her career in teaching. Phyllis taught at Randolph for 16 years (1971-1987) out of her 23 years of teaching. TEACHER OF THE YEAR-Randolph Education Association selected Deb Green as 1986-87 Teacher of the Year. A graduate of Wayne State College, Miss Green has taught at Randolph since 1978 and is presently teaching Kindergarten. CEDAR COUNTY ANNUAL SPELLING BEE-Becky Gubbels finished 16th, Ramsey Lewis 9th, Sherri Wittier 7th and Jason Loberg 2nd. Twenty-eight seventh and eighth grade students representing seven school districts in Cedar County attended the third annual Cedar County Spelling Bee. SPYING CN Randolph High School held its Homecoming on October 3, 1986. Kelly Thelen and Ann Nannen were crowned King and Queen at the dance following a 12-0 loss to Neligh. The theme of the dance was “That Was Then, This Is Now” by the Monkees. Music was furnished by Stanton Sound. Spirit Week started on Tuesday with Toga Day. Wednesday was Singer Look-A-Like Day and Thursday was Initiation. The boys dressed as Cabbage Patch Dolls with bottles and diapers; and the girls were dressed as Ronald McDonald, with clown faces, red hair, and over-sized shoes. The winners of The Best Dressed Contest were Jason Speer and Nikki Schnell. Runners up were Brent Berner and Pam Gubbels. Spirit Week ended with Friday being Red and White Day. At the Pep Rally at the end of the school day a lot of school spirit was shown. Dancing the night away. Royal Dance Michelle McLain crowning King Kelly Thelen. Becky Lackas congratulating Queen Ann Nannen. 18 HOMECOMING
