CUR THEME SCN© Mr. John Alpers presenting Lisa Thies The John Philip Sousa Award. Sandi Kollars, Tyler Osborn, and Julie Carstens all received Superiors at District Music Contest. The Randolph High School Band started off their 1984-1985 year by playing pre-game and halftime numbers for the home football games and marching in the Harvest of Harmonies Parade in Grand Island. The pep band, as in the past, played for the home games and made the trips to the Subdistrict, District, and State Tournaments. There were also many participants in the various honor bands and clinics. Those who took part in the Wayne State Honor Band were Julie Carstens, Patti Milander, Tyler Osborn, Sandi Kollars, Troy Taylor, Mike Riedmiller, Chuck Gubbels, and Melissa Coenen. Julie Carstens also took part in the Kearney State Band Festival, the UNO Honor Band, and earned the most points towards her band letter. The entire band took part in the NENAC Band Clinic in Creighton along with playing for the Christmas Concert held on December 14th, the Spring Concert on April 15th, and Graduation. Chuck Gubbels, Becky Lackas, Sandi Kollars, Troy Taylor, Kelly Thieman, Julie Carstens, Deb Milander, Shelly Wattier, Tyler Osborn, Missy Coenen, and Lisa Thies took solos to District Music Contest in Wayne. Patti Milander and Christy Carpenter served as accompanists. The band worked hard all year, their enthusiasm and talent helped make their concerts and contests big successes. 11
