Mr. List reading the Creighton Bulldogs’ eulogy at the pep rally. ’84 is the best, no one cares about the rest! King and Queen candidates: Jane Pflanz, Larry Sohler, Cheryl Berner, Marvin Nordhues, Kathie Moser, Mark Preston, Sindee Breding, Eddie Tharnish. Mr. Nannen brightened things up at the bonfire. On Monday October 3, Homecoming Week 1983 began. It was a week filled with excitement, anticipation, school spirit and loyalty. Monday was Occupation Day. On Tuesday the senior class got to initiate the freshman class. The girls had to dress as Mr. T. and the boys dressed as Playboy bunnies. Wednesday was Tie, Hat, and Glasses Day. Thursday was Signing T-shirt Day. The spirit continued on Thursday night with a bonfire and pep rally at the football field. Friday was Red and White Day. School was let out at 3:00 for the parade and pep rally. The Cardinals romped over the Creighton Bulldogs 37-8. The junior class, with the theme “Gone With The Wind”, won the window painting contest and the sophomores’ “E.T.” received second place. Music at the dance was by Stanton Sound. 29

King Mark and Queen Cheryl Queen Cheryl Berner and King Mark Preston. Class Attendants: Juniors - Caryl Preston and Mitchell Borst, Sophomores -Julie Carstens and Kirby Meyer, Freshmen - Ann Nannen and Kelly Thelen. King and Queen candidates were announced at half-time of the football game. The 1983 Homecoming Royalty was crowned October 7, following a victorious football game against Creighton. Mark Preston was crowned King and Cheryl Berner was crowned Queen. Mark is the son of Doug and Ruth Preston. He likes sports and being with friends. Film at Eleven and Tractorz are his favorite music groups. He likes James Bond movies and dislikes ... Creighton. His favorite TV show is Johnny Carson and his favorite car is the Mark VI. Mark has competed in track and football and served as a football captain this year. He is a member of National Honor Society and is vice-president of the senior class. Cheryl is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Berner. She likes being with friends and helping others. She dislikes people who talk about others behind their backs. Her favorite car is the Firebird. Her favorite TV show is Dynasty and her favorite movie is An Officer and a Gentleman”. Cheryl has been treasurer, assistant editor, and editor of the Annual Staff and vice-president of National Honor Society. She is the Student Council president this year. She has lettered in volleyball, basketball, and track. Cheryl was a Prom waitress as a sophomore and was elected for Girls State. 28 yal Court ROYAL COURT. Front Row: Heather Scott, Jeffrey Carstens. King Larry and Queen Michelle. The 1984 Sweetheart Royalty was Queen Michelle Tunink and King Larry Sohler. Michelle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tunink. She was born Aug. 16, 1966, at Osmond under the sign I of Leo. Michelle’s favorite TV personality is John Ritter of Three’s Company. Her favorite musical group is Alabama. Hobbies for Michelle include swimming, bowling, going to the movies, and having fun with friends. Michelle is active in student council, and is a member of Who’s Who. Her pet peeve is people who always complain. Her greatest challenge is to finish school, get a job, and be happy. After graduation, Michelle plans to attend college to become a LPN. Larry is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sohler. He was born Aug. 6, 1966, in St. Louis, Missouri under the sign Leo. Larry’s favorite TV personality is Eddie Murphy. His favorite musical groups are Def Leppard, Aldo Nova, and Loverboy. Larry’s hobbies are dancing and motorcycle riding. Larry has been involved in wrestling 4 years, football 2 years, Drama Club 2 years, and FFA 4 years. Larry was treasurer of FFA his senior year. His pet peeve is people who don’t wave or say “Hi”.
