Speech and Voice of Democracy are the silver tongued gamblers ■■i Cheri Stevens, Christal Kint, Kelly Frederick, Donna Buell, and Cindy Burgel were in the cast. Runner-up in the Voice of Democracy contest were Julie Pentico and Janice Carpenter. The Randolph High School Speech Team participated in two speech tournaments: the NENAC Conference Tournament held at Pierce and District Speech Contest held at Allen. The Randolph Speech team competed at the NENAC tournament with the following results: Kelly Frederick and Cheri Stevens each gave an Original Public Address. Kelly’s topic was how to deal with missing children. She received an “excellent” rating. Cheri also received and “excellent.” Christal Kint and Cindy Burgel each gave an interpretation of poetry. Christal, whose presentation centered around love poetry, received an “good” rating. Cindy read various poems by Native American Authors and received an overall “good” rating. Julie Carstens and Donna Buell each participated in informative speeches. Julie’s speech was entitled “Happiness through communication”. Julie received a superior and a first place in her division. Donna’s Speech dealt with the disease Spina Bifida — She received an overall “excellent” rating. At the District tournament, at Allen, the team finished as follows: Cheri Stevens, superior”; Kelly Frederick, “excellent”; Donna Buell, “superior”; Julie Carstens, “excellent”; Cindy Bugel, “superior”; Christal Kint, “excellent . State qualifiers •were Cheri Stevens and Cindy Burgel. At the State Tournament, Cheri Stevens received one superior and one excellent, while Cindy Burgel received two excellents. The speech class also put on a puppet show for the elementary called “Freddy Goes to the Hospital” and Bear’s tooth-ache”. Superiors at district tournament were Cindy Burgel, Cheri Stevens, and Donna Buell. The winner of the Voice of Democracy contest was Julie Carstens.
