The Randolph High School Choir started off the 1983-1984 year with the All State Music Convention, which was held November 17-19, at Kearney. Donny Tunink represented Randolph as a bass vocalist. On January 5th, of 1984, the Vocal and Instrumental Winter Concert was held. Mrs. Rodgers accompanied them with the piano. It was originally set for December 20 but was cancelled on account of the snowstorm. Also in January, on the 17th, there was a Swing Choir Concert. Stanton and Randolph performed here in Randolph. On March 2nd, the choir performed a musical called “Teen”. Mr. Bradley and Dave Carstens accompanied Mrs. List. Brian Backer, Cindy Berner, and Ann Nannen participated in the musical by singing solos. A NENAC Vocal Clinic was held on March 20, in Randolph. Cheri Helmer, a former teacher at Randolph, came from Seward to direct the Choir, Boys Glee, and Swing Choir. The Swing Choir Festival was held in Norfolk on the 23rd of March. Contests were held April 27th and 28th in Wayne. Malinda Goldman, Brian Backer and Donny Tunink were the soloist that participated. Brian Backer received a Superior. Cheri Stevens and Donny Tunink performed a duet also. Dave Korth received the Outstanding Choral Award. The Swing Choir, Boys Glee, and Choir all performed at contest and did an excellent job. For graduation, on May 20th, the Senior members of Choir and the entire Swing Choir performed to Don’t Stop Believing” and “So many Bright Tomorrows”. What a nice way to end the Seniors’ years at RHS. 10 Brian Backer received a Superior at contest.
