FFA Creed I believe in the future of farming, with a faith born not of words but of deeds — achievements won by the present and past generations of agriculturists; in the promise of better days through better ways, even as the better things we now enjoy have come to us from the struggles of former years, I believe that to live and work on a good farm, or to be engaged in other agricultural pursuit, is pleasant as well as challenging; for I know the joys and discomforts of agricultural life and hold an inborn fondness for those associations which, even in hours of discouragement. I cannot deny. I believe in leadership from ourselves and respect from others. I believe in my own ability to work efficiently and think clearly, with such knowledge and skill as I can secure, and in the ability of progressive agriculturists to serve our own and the public interest in producing and marketing the product of our soil. I believe in less dependence on begging and more power in bargaining; in the life abundant and enough honest wealth to help make it so — for others as well as myself; in less need for charity and more of it when needed; in being happy myself and playing square with those whose happiness depends upon me. I believe that rural America can and will hold true to the best traditions of our national life and that I can exert an influence in my home and community which will stand solid for my part in that inspiring task. by E. It is the place to go when you need to do research on a particular subject. This year our library added some new books to its collection. Some were fiction that told stories that we fantasize about. Other books dealt with hobbies such as: hunting, fishing and hiking. Some of the books were about social science and social problems. Also, when we need a quiet place to study, the library is just the place to be to get your work done. All these things and many others make our library a very important place. 19 The many faces of drama Front row: Caryl Preston, Donna Buell, Becky Gubbels, Julie Caratens, Angie Steffen, Jane Pflanz, Rhonda May, Jackie Gubbels, Cheri Stevens. Their determination and hard work during the regular season paid off at the end of the season when they entered into the state playoffs. Even though they lost the playoff game against Bennington, it certainly was a loss not to be ashamed of. The football team was certainly a team to be proud of. Cheerleaders deal with enthusiasn This year’s 1983-84 cheerleaders filled the year with a tremendous amount of spirit. The six cheerleaders — Angie, Jackie, Janeen, Julie, Becky, and Trish led the student body in loyalty and spirit. They cheered at the football, volleyball, and basketball games and at the wrestling matches. Their sponsor, Vickie Robinson, helped them organize many activities. The cheerleaders had a bonfire during Homecoming week which was followed by a snake dance. They sponsored pep rallies for the sports events and put on many skits. The cheerleaders also displayed their spirit through the many posters they made and the locker tags they made for the athletes. 54 The Crazy Eights Front Row: Jackie Gubbels, Peggy Stueckrath, Vicki May, Cindy Berner. The year started with election of officers. Ruth Loberg was President, Kathie Moser, Vice President; Marvin Nordhues, Secretary-Treasurer; and Student Council representatives were David Korth and Arlyn Loberg. Our class sponsors were Mrs. Dorothy Jensen and Mr. George Bradley. Next came the agony of initiation during Homecoming Week activities. We were required to wear togas and be slaves for a day to the Seniors. Many of us were also required to carry heavy objects such as tires, bricks, and concrete blocks. Cheryl Berner and Dave Korth were chosen for homecoming attendants. In the spring, we followed the girls basketball team to the State tournaments where they became the State Champions. The new officers for our Sophomore year were Marvin Nordhues, President; Jeff Bloomquist, Vice President; Larry Sohler, Secretary-Treasurer; and Joan Olson and Roger Thelen were Student Council representatives. Attendants for Homecoming were Jane Pflanz and Roger Korth. Waiters for prom were Dave Korth, Roger Korth, Larry Sohler, and Jeff Bloomquist. The waitresses were Jane Pflanz, Rhonda May, Jackie Gubbels, and Cheryl Berner. One important event of the year was ordering our class rings. Inductees to the National Honor Society this year were Marvin Nordhues, Denise Rasmussen, Cheryl Berner and Ruth Loberg. Ed Tharnish received All-Conference Honorable Mention in basketball. For our Junior year the officers were President Ruth Loberg, Vice President Marvin Nordhues, Secretary Kathie Moser, Treasurer Roger Korth and Student Council Representatives Sindee Breding and Dave Korth. The attendants for Homecoming this year were Kathie Moser and Jeff Bloomquist. Magazines were sold in the fall to make money for prom. The top salesmen were Dave Korth, Arlyn Loberg, Ruth Loberg, Jane Pflanz, and Jane Patent. For the Junior Class Dinner Theatre we put on the play “Rest Assured”. The best actress chosen was Denise Rasmussen and Dave Korth was chosen as best actor. Todd Doerr joined our Junior year but left before the year was completed. Monica Brown and Linda Johnson were also members of our class who left us. National Honor Society Inductees for this year were Dave Korth, Mark Preston, Penny Milander, Jane Pflanz and Maureen Thelen. Cheryl Berner was chosen for Girl’s State and Maureen Thelen was alternate. Rhonda May received All Conference Honorable Mention in Volleyball and Ed Tharnish was chosen for All Conference in Football. The girls basketball team again made another trip to the State tournament in Lincoln. Sindee Breding was chosen for All Conference, Northeast Nebraska Top 12, and All State World Herald Honorable Mention. In boys basketball, Ed Tharnish received All Conference with Dave Korth receiving Honorable Mention in this category. Sindee Breding went to State in track for the high jump where she placed 5th. Next came the time we had been planning for so long - Junior-Senior Prom. The theme was “Up W’here We Belong”. Jane Pflanz was crowned queen and the other candidates were Kathie Moser, Jackie Gubbels, and Sindee Breding. Next came our final and most successful year at Randolph High. We were finally Seniors and celebrated it by initiating the incoming class of Freshmen. The Freshmen girls dressed like Mr. T and the boys dressed as Playboy bunnies. Officers chosen for our last year were Kathie Moser, President; Mark Preston, Vice President; Denise Rasmussen, Secretary: Jeff Bloomquist, Treasurer; and Ed Tharnish and Roger Thelen for Student Council. In the Homecoming football game Randolph beat Creighton by a score of 37 to 8. Mark Preston and Cheryl Berner were crowned king and queen. The rest of the Royal Court were Marvin Nordhues, Ed Tharnish, Larry Sohler, Sindee Breding, Kathie Moser and Jane Pflanz. Michelle Tunink and Larry Sohler were crowned as the royal couple at the FFA-FHA Sweetheart Dance. Donna Buell and Ed Tharnish were the new inductees into the National Honor Society. The football team got to the State Playoffs and played a fine game and lost in overtime. All Conference players chosen were Marvin Nordhues, Mark Preston, and Ed Tharnish. Honorable Mention went to Dave Korth and Arlyn Loberg. The volleyball girls also had a successful year as they beat Plainview in 3 sets at Regionals to go on to State. Kathie Moser and Cheryl Berner received All Conference and Rhonda May received Honorable Mention. Kathie Moser, Ed Tharnish and Dave Korth were named All State Honorable Mention by the Omaha World Herald and Marvin Nordhues was named to the Class C-l All State Football Team. The boys basketball team gave us many thrills with all their overtime games. At Regionals the boys played in a double overtime game in which their victory qualified them for a much deserved trip to the state tournaments. In the first game at the tournament, the boys team had an overtime game again and although they may have lost they played like true winners. The girls basketball team also made another trip to state. Everyone enjoyed going to Lincoln again. Ed Tharnish and Sindee Breding were both chosen as members of the Omaha World Herald’s Class C-l All State team and along with Dave Korth were chosen for the North Team for the All-State Basketball game. Qualifiers for state in track were Sindee Breding in the high jump and Ed Tharnish in the long jump. Dave Korth received the outstanding vocal award for chorus and Dave Carstens received the John Philip Sousa award in band. In April we took a class trip to Omaha. On May 5th we were presented with the Junior-Senior Prom by the Junior Class. The theme was “Islands in the Stream” and Jeff Bloomquist was crowned as king. Our next big event to wait for was graduation. Our years seemed to go by fast, but we did have the time to enjoy many activities. Although small, our class accomplished big things. We turned in our books for the last time and prepared for graduation. We received our diplomas and got ready to face the opportunities ahead of us. We are not afraid of tomorrow, for we have seen yesterday and we love today. 80 WAIJiWORTH PI HI IHMINC COMPANY MARCKUNK MIHMOCRI «4 M I
