CARDINALS CLOSE SEASON AT 5-3 Running Back Receiving All-Conference honors was Merlin Lobcrg. Merlin was chosen as Defensive Line Backer. Daryl Loberg received All-Conference honors, was picked as Defensive Nose Guard, and also received honorable mention in the Class C All-State. Randy Green received All-Conference honors, was picked as an Offensive Running Back, along with being named to the Top 20 Northeast Nebraska Football players in the Norfolk Daily News, and also received honorable mention at Class C All-State. Also receiving honorable mention at Conferences were Ken Boatman, Greg Lackas, Scott Wattier, and Scott Wilkinson. DEFENSE. The awards from boys basketball are as follows: Most Valuable Player Award went to Randy Green and Dean Hanna. Honorary Team Captain went to Dean Hanna. Most Inspirational Player Award went to Jeff Winkelbauer. Outstanding Defensive Player Award went to Ken Boatman. Mr. Hustle Award went to Dan Van Slyke and Jeff Winkelbauer. Most Improved Player Award: SENIOR- Dean Nordhues, JUNIOR-Marty Nordhues, SOPHOMORE-Dave Korth, FRESHMAN-Darrin Nordhues. The Leader in steals Award was presented to Dean Hanna with a total of 47 steals. Other basketball honors can be found on pages 20-21. COED BASKETBALL. The Coed Intramural Basketball Championship Team members are Kevin Lenhoff-captain, Gary Clark, Marty Nordhues, Bill Schmit, Jeff Thies, Jackie Bargstadt, Rhonda May, Michelle McLain and Mari Pflanz. SPECIAL HONORS FOR SPECIAL PEOPLE There were four students at the Randolph High School winning Best of Show at the Fine Arts Festival. Those students were Cindy Burgel, named Best of Show in the high school classes; Corene McCarthy received first place in the Music Division with a vocal solo; Patty Fuchs was named alternate, and Jane Pflanz was the winner in the Style Revue. Sherrill Burmester was chosen to represent Randolph this year at Girls State in Lincoln. Sherrill is a junior at the Randolph High School. Bobbi Loberg was chosen alternate. She is also a Junior at Randolph High School. Becky Boling, age 18, has been selected to compete in the Nebraska Miss T.E.E.N. pageant. The pageant is to he held at the University of Nebraska May 28-29 in Lincoln. This pageant is the official Statewide Finals for the Miss T.E.E.N. Corinne Helsing, age 17, has been selected to be in the 1982 Miss Nebraska National Teen-Ager Pageant to be held at Nebraska Wesleyan University June 25-27. The Miss Nebraska National Teen-Ager pageant finals are to be held in August. There were three Voice of Democracy Oratory contest winners in the Randolph High School. First place went to Denise Rasmussen, second place went to Bobbi Loberg, and third place went to Cheryl Berner. Cheryl Berner attends seminar. Twenty selected high school students from across the state gathered in Wahoo, May 14-19, for a unique, federally funded seminar on computers. Among the 20 attending was Cheryl Berner of Randolph High School who was selected by a special committee from the Nebraska State Department of Education. She was chosen because of her high academic standing, high IQ, and her response to a four-page questionaire that included two essays. While attending the seminar, Miss Berner stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Schoen. Cheryl is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Berner. Cheryl's comment: It was a very unique experience and I had lots of fun while learning a lot. Mildred Brown was presented a teaching award ofr her 34 years of dedicated service. Henry Hilkemann was presented an award for serving on the school board for 20 years. 14
