Students In Industrial Arts Become Excellent Craftsman The students in Industrial Arts at KHS have produced many outstanding projects. The students in these classes have put in a combimed total of over 2,900 hours on their projects for this year alone. The efforts show that many of them will become excellent craftsmen in their near future.

They Deserve The Credit Picture 1. Girls Stater and Alternate: Corinne Helsing was chosen as 1981 resppresented for GIRLS STATE. Joan Lober, Alternate. Band Letter Awards John Philip Sousa Award - Sheryl Whitehorn Drum Majorette - Sharon Whitehorn, Baton Twirler - Robin Berner, Drill Team - Susie Korth, Koni Daws, Kathie Baker, Corinne Helsing, Leah Amman, Tammy Whitehorn, Shelly Stratton, Mary Nannen. All Received Pins. Jazz Combo - Sheryl Whitehorn, Sharon Whitehorn, Margaret Pentico, Julie Pflanz, Brett Rissler, Don Leiting. Contest Superiors - Margaret Pentico - Flute Duet Sharon Whitehorn - Flute duet, Corinne Helsing - Clarinet solo High School Band - all members received a letter award, or if they had won a letter previous year they received a pin. Those singled out for sepcial recognition are Seniors: Margaret Pentico, Brett Rissler, Sharon Whitehorn, Sheryl Whitehorn, Juniors: Logene Baird, Corinne Helsing, Freshman: David Carstens (accumulated over 115 points). Those students who accumulated over 100 points during the year receive the 2nd award. Seniors: Sandy Lange. Juniors: Corene McCarthy, Tammy Whitehorn. Sophomores: Wade Dibbert, Jane Gubbels. Freshmen: Bobby McDonald, Mark Preston. All elementary band members were awarded certificates for participation. Ail Junior High band members were awarded certificates for participation. The following students received certificates for participation in the Norfolk Junior High Clinic on Saturday, May 2, Connie Nordhues, clarinet solo; Dawn Gerkins clarinet solo; Tammy Arduser, snare drum solo; Cindy Berner, snare drum solo; Kelly Thieman, snare drum solo; (Superior rating); Julie Carstens, Flute solo; Julie Pentico, oboe solo (Superior rating); Kirby Meyer and Darcy Speer, Irombone Bariton duet. Sheryl Whitehorn - Music Division Club Fine Arts Fair Winner. Anne Preston is the music alternate. Rose Schmit is the sewing Division Club Champion for the Fine Arts Fair. IEACHEK OF I HE YEAR: The Randolph Education Association's Teacher of the Year Award was presented to Shirley Jensen. She was elected for her professionalism and her service to the R.E.A. Mrs. Jensen's hometown is Vincent, Ala. She attended Jacksonville State University of Jacksonville, Ala., where she majored in business and minored in English. She is a busines teacher, yearbook sponsor and FBLA sponsor. She belongs to Delta Kappa Gamma, the National Business Education Association, vice president of the local P.E.O. and is secretary of the Ruth Circle at St. John's Lutheran Church. The annual staff voted on the Senior who contributed the most to the 1981 yearbook. Margaret Pentico received this award. Underclassman who contributed the most to the 1981 yearbook was Janice Berner. The Photographer, who contributed the most to the 1981 yearbook was Denise Nordhues. Mary Tunink, editor of the 1981 yearbook, received an award for an outstanding job in planning and editing the yearbook. Picture 2. Raymond Weyhrich was awarded best student manager. Picture 3. Susie Korth won at District speech contest and was allowed the honor of participating in the State speech contest, which she received two Excellent ratings and two Superior ratings. Picture 4. Business Students that participated in business contest sponsored by Pi Omega Pi at Wayne State College were Sherrill Burmester who placed fifth over-all in Typing II, Sandy Lange, who placed fifth in Office Machines. The Junior Class put on a class play as well as a dinner theater. The play was called Finders Creepers and it turned ot to be a big success. The Junior Class voted on the best actor and best actress. The lucky people given these honors were Jackie Johnson, best actress, and Dan Van Slyke, best actor. They should both be proud of these honors. Picture 6. Jeff Winkelbauer was selected for Boy's State. Picture 7. The two most outstanding poeple in FHA are Kathie Backer and Mary Tunink. Picture 8. Later on in the year, the Drama Club came up with the idea of giving a good comical play. The play chosen was called Hillbilly Weddin and it brought down the house with laughter. There were many people who participated in the play to make it a success and it did turn out to be a very funny evening. The crowd voted on the best actor and the best actress, as well as the best supporting actor and actress. The lucky people to receive these awards were best actor: Brad Johnson, best actress: Leah Amman, best supporting actor: Dan Stevens, and best supporting actress: Kathy Helsing. These people did an excellent job on their part, but they couldn't have had a hit show unless the other people were there, also. Everyone worked very hard on this play and we hope to be seeing more in the coming years. Picture 8 shows Dan Stevens, Brad Johnson, Leah Amman, Kathy Helsing. The 1981 edition of WHO'S WHO IN MUSIC will carry the names of nine students from Randolph Public Schools who have been selected as being among the country's most outstanding high school music students. The head of the School's nominating committee and the editors of the annual directory have included the names of these students based on their music ability, academic achievement, service to the community leadership in extracurricular activities and future potential. Students named this year from Randolph Public Schools are Julie Pflanz, Kathy Helsing, Dan Stevens, and Roger Tunink, Brett Rissler, Sheryl Whitehorn, Margaret Pentico, Sharon Whitehorn, and Mark Stevens. 22
