When he returns to Sweden he will go for one year of mandatory military service, and he also hopes to study computer science in college. Dan presented several speeches about his homeland. These speeches were presented to: Delta Kappa Gamma. The Lutheran Men and Boys’ Banquet. P.E.O.. The Modern Mrs.. The Mariners and the Lions Club. Dan participated in track at school. Wayne State Math Contest, and he was also involved in Luther League. The thing Dan liked most about Randolph was the generous, friendly people. He also like the big. comfortable cars. In school he liked the good teachers. Dan was among 400 outstanding math students from Northeast Nebraska participating in the Sixth Annual Mathematics competition at Wayne State College. Dan was presented a plaque as third place winner in the senior math division. The result of placing third in the senior math division is a possibility Dan will be doing some private tutoring in math in the Sioux City area. Dan said he would like to return to Randolph for a visit as soon as he can afford it. As for the food he thought it was good — but one thing he didn ’t like was marshmallow salads. Dan said he would like to thank everyone for their fast acceptance of him and for their patience with his accent. Candidates for King were John Lackas, Larry Korth, Scott Andrew, and Mark Koehler. John Lackas was crowned King. Our class sponsors for our Junior and Senior years were Mr. Bradley and Mr. Schnell. This year was also special to us because we were fortunate to have a foreign exchange student, Dan Synek from Gothenburg Sweden, joined us for our Senior year. We hope that he enjoyed his stay here in Randolph and that he doesn’t stereotype all American students by our standards. Special recognition was given the top ten students of the class of 1980. They are: Valedictorian - Diane Creamer, Salutatorian - Lynell Bermcl, Mark Koehler, Barb Bloomquist. Joni Janssen, Sara Rudebusch, Doug Haselhorst, Randy Nelson, Jolene Nordhues, and Joni Robinson. And so one chapter of our life ends, but as we look back on it we must keep in mind that another chapter has already opened. - Our motto stated that our future is uncertain and it is. But after being with my classmates almost all of my school years, I think that I can speak for all of us when I say that the future is going to be the best that it can be because we are going to give it the best that we can. 76 Seniors Awarded Scholarships Lynell Bermel: Regents Scholarship, Honors Program, UN-L.
