The Band started out the year traveling to the State Fair. They supported sports by playing at half-times and at Pep Rallies and gave a Mid-Winter Concert on January 30. The highlight of the Band Season was District Music Contest at Wayne State College where the band was happy for Shirley Huetig and Lorrie Johnson who, consecutively, received superiors for their clari -net and piano solos. Other small groups and solos receiving Excellent and Good ratings were: Lynell Jensen, sax solo; Sharon Whitehom, flute solo; Sheryl Whitehom, trumpet solo; and Margaret Pentico, flute solo; Woodwind Trio, Brass Quartet, Flute Duet, Saxophone Duet, Clarinet Duet, and Stage Band. On May 1 awards were given at the Music Banquet to the following: Ruth Brodersen-National School Choral Award; Lynell Jensen-John Philip Sousa Award; Sara Rudebusch-Junior Honor; Brett Rissler-Sophomore Honor; Corene McCarthy-Freshman Honor and Brad Eddie - Accompanist. The Band finished the year at the Spring Concert on May 15. The Concert Choir started the year with the Mid-Winter Concert on December 21. Girls' Glee, Chamber Choir, and Swing Choir received Excellent and Good ratings. Ruth Brodersen, Corene McCarthy, and Bob Hamilton all received Excellents while Don Stevens received a Good rating. The Vocal Music Department finished the year with the Spring Concert May 10.
