1976 Class History Back in the fall of 1972, 59 students entered R.H.S. as the Freshman class. We started our freshman year with elections which produced Dave Walz, President; Tom Arens, Vice President; Teri Neese, Secretary-Treasurer; and Lori Borst and Betti Reed, Student Council Representatives. With the help of our class sponsors, Mr. Blecha and Mr. List our float, TO KILL THE WILDCAT, won first place during Homecoming activities. The year ended with a class party. Sixty Sophomores elected Kendall Kuhl, President; Lori Borst, Vice President; Lori Helsing, Secretary-Treasurer; Eve Rohde and Tammy Witte, Student Council Representatives. Mr. Barlow and Mr. Beardshear guided our group. April brought the most exciting time of die year for us as Sophomores with ordering of our class rings. Being the Bicentennial class we were given the opportunity to capture that theme in the mounting of our rings. As Juniors we began a busy year with many plans ahead of us. One of these were to choose our leaders. We chose Gary Beltz, President; Doug Tunink, Vice President; Jeanie Kruger, Secretary-Treasurer; Janet Spicker and Dave Remington, Student Council Representatives. Gary Backer and Eve Rohde were chosen the Junior Class Representatives for the Sweetheart Ball. On May 2nd, we honored the Seniors with a very successful Jr. -Sr. Banquet and Dance. Our theme was Laughter in the Rain and music was furnished by The Smith Brothers. Jeanif Kruger was chosen queen of Prom. The last big event of the year was the musical, Rock n Roll in which many Juniors participated. Mr. Barlow, Mr. Beardshear, and Miss Herrick helped to make our Junior year very successful and fulfilling. On September 4, 1975, we started our final year as Seniors at R.H.S. We have followed our able sponsors, Mr. Barlow, and Mr. Beardshear, and our capable class officers, Gary Beltz, President; Steve Thieman, Vice President; Teri Neese, Secretary-Treasurer; and Deyon Boughn and Rich Olson, Student Council Representatives, throughout our Senior year. The first major event of the year was Homecoming, with the theme Stars and Stripes Forever. The music was furnished by Cokely . Classmates Karla Lackas and Kendall Kuhl were chosen to reign over the throne. The second semester came with the excitement of ordering our announcements, thank-yous, and other keepsakes such as memory books, and class keys. Our fellow ilassmates Gary Backer and Julie Bargstadt were chosen FFA-FHA King and Queen of the Sweetheart Ball. As spring neared we anxiously awaited the honorary Jr.-Sr. Banquet and Dance which was held on May 1. The chosen theme was Stairway to Heaven . With the end of the school year getting close we were filled with excitement as we practiced for Baccaulaureate and Commencement. We Seniors regret leaving R.H.S., but as we pass through it's doors for the last time, each awaiting for the sensation of being Free to be Me, we will recall such things as the desks wc wrote our names on, our friends so true who borrowed paper and pencils but neglected to return them, and our teachers who were always around to cause us a few bad times. Seriously, wc appreciate all the extra help and hard work necessary to provide us with an education. Special recognition is given to the 13 year students who are; Ryan Rudebusch, Carlin Rasmussen, Gary Backer, Garry Weyhrich, Jeanie Kruger, Deyon Boughn, Karla Wattier, Gary Beltz, Eve Rohde, and Bette Reed. Over the years of education we have accomplished many things, yet there has been SO LITTLE DONE, SO MUCH TO DO This is in memory of Brad Thies who was a member of our class and who deceased in our Junior High years. 6
