The dance and coronation held after the game climaxed the week-long homecoming activities which were highlighted by the football game between Randolph and Columbus Lakeview. The Cards started the scoring in the first quarter as Walt Slattery kept the ball himself and went in from the 14 yard line. The second quarter was a stand-off as neither team could get enough ground to score. Lakeview evened the score early in the fourth quarter as the extra-point attempt failed. With three seconds on the clock, the Cards called a time out. After looking the situation over, the attempted field goal by Slattery was good! It was a Cardinal victory, 9-6. Many of those values we chose ourselves; but the major function of choosing was that of searching, of seeking to discover what did exist, of weighing the possibilities and consequences, and then choosing what really seemed best, most important, most our own--and, therefore, most valuable. Under the sponsorship of Mrs. Wachholtz and Mr. Osborn 49 Junior High students chose to make an educational switch in that former year and place a valuable emphasis on their further education at R H S. Being Freshmen we received an urge to gain experiences, ideas, and resources which would provide us full freedom to commit ourselves to something valuable. Our first committment was to Homecoming of that year and the major task of making our first float. This float received a first place ribbon. As Sophomores, we felt that without values we would live under the tyranny of ignorance and be threatened by the future--so we chose that years Homecoming float to have the title of Kodak Pictures the Cards as Winner. With the help of Mr. Koch and Mr. Osborn, 51 classmates decorated the float to a second place tie with the Juniors. In 1971, Mrs. Rissler, Mr. Koch, and Mr. Osborn with 76 Juniors, chose to reflect on the consequences of all choices and to select prizes which could be cherished most. Again our ability in float-making proved most valuable as our theme of, Happiness is a Victory received first place. Also last year we honored the Seniors with a Banquet and Prom with the theme being A Time for Us as Mari Beth Whalen and Jim Beltz were crowned royalty. As we reached this final year, we had matured, we created the conditions of our education, we recognized choices, and alternatives to goals which would make sense. We had learned the procedures of thought, of achievement, of fulfillment. We were guided through this final year by Mr. Osborn and Mr. Peterson. Our Homecoming float received third place and we were honored by the Juniors at a Prom and luncheon with the theme of Colour My World. Walt Slattery and Pam Ilokamp were chosen to reign over the throne. We, of the Senior class were very proud to be part of a school which had very much to offer academically and very much to offer in the outstanding sports season. The exact destination of this class is unperceivable. The routes are many, the environment challenging and vastly unknown; and the atmosphere constantly needs re-evaluation. The journey by whatever route, by whatever forward movement or backward drifting is the only trip worth taking for these 70 graduating students. Special recognition is given to the 13 year students who are: Dave Rasemussen, Bob Weyhrich, Janice Kruger, Brad Weber, Bruce Sellon, Rod Berner, and Monte Owens. 44 LOOK AT IT THIS WAY— SOMEONE HAS TO PLA Y THE PART OF A FLOWER IN THE CLASS PLA Y ACTIVITIES Track FIRST ROW: Paul Sellon, Dwight Rossbach, Steve Fish, Walt Slattery, Bruce Strathman, Dave Boatman; SECOND ROW: Coach Blessen, Jerry Fichter, Don Rossbach, Rod Berner, Dan Rudebusch, Coach Whitney; THIRD ROW: John Rudebusch, Jim Rudebusch, Tim Kint, Frank Wortman, Ken Bloomquist, Dave Leiting, Dave Lewon QUALIFIERS FOR STATE Assistant Coach Blessen, Rod Berner, Walt Slattery, Don Rossbach, Dave Lewon, Coach Whitney.
