KAY EBERHARDT JANET WEYHRICH TERRY KRUEGER BARBARA NELSON ROY CERK1NS STEPS THE TOWARD In August, 1966, 45 recruited astronauts blasted into their first orbit around Randolph Public High School. Our flight commanders were Zachariah Boughn and Gary Speer. Our first encounter in space was Homecoming. During our short visit, we received second place for CROWN THE ROYAL RED and won the Spirit Stick. Then we ventured into the world of dramatics with LOVE HITS WILBUR . With the finish of our nine month space flight, we returned home. At this time we were hit by the great tragedy at RHS, the death of our cherished and most respected friend, Rueben Mueller. In August, 1967, 47 astronauts began a new flight program to venture into the outer atmosphere. Our space commanders were Shirley Jensen and Gary Speer. Our first adventure into space was Homecoming, in which we were bestowed first place for SAILING ON TO VICTORY and again won the Spirit Stick. This time we traveled deeper into the world of dramatics with THE TRUE IN HEART. The most outstanding and greatest thrill of this flight was the honor and prestige of ordering our class rings for 1970. We returned safely and took our three month leave of absence. In September, 1968 , 48 members of the flight team sat waiting in the ship for BLASTOFF. Because of their successful commandeering, Jensen and Speer were again put in charge. Our first attempt to blast off went awry when our engines failed to ignite with SEE THE LIGHT IN CARD COUNTRY . We finally cleared ground in December with THE MOUSE THAT ROARED, and headed toward our goal to orbit the moon. Beneath its light we saw for the first time our ISLE OF GOLDED DREAMS. Being low on fuel, we returned to earth with knowledge and information which would help us reach that goal—the following year. We took our annual leave to rest for the final, but most exciting trip. - MOON Preparations for our final trip began on September 2, '69—our ship loaded with all the necessary equipment and with Mrs. Jensen and Mr. Speer as our leaders. Our Homecoming blastoff was better than ever with THE CARDS KEEP ON TICKING. We headed toward our dream. We had, by now, accomplished a major feat through what many people had called THE IMPOSSIBLE YEARS. We now knew we would succeed in reaching our GLORIA MUNDI, and prepared to enter landing orbit with BYE BYE BIFlDIE. We entered and were as surprised and as awed as Dorothy in THE LAND OF OZ. We began descent on May 24 with Baccalaureate. With ground control losing contact, we slowly approached our landing. .. 5... 4.. . 3. . . 2. .. 1. . . and tonight we land. We have accomplished a great deal. Working, planning toward the day when 48 RHS Seniors would land safely on a New World. We go forth to explore now, knowing only that in OUR HANDS WE HOLD THE FUTURE, BUT ONLY GOD KNOWS THE WAY. BABES IN BUNNYLAND IN OUR HANDS WE HOLD THE FUTURE, BUT ONLY GOD KNOWS THE WAY. MRS.
