The Class--Yesterday The class of 53 , which will soon enter the ranks of the Alumni, has only two students who attended the twelve years together, namely Ed Atwood and Duane Lewis, These boys have gained many classmates and lost many, In the fourth grade they were joined by Shirley Backer, in the sixth grade by Glennadine Roland and in the eighth grade by Dorothy I Schmidt, And so together these five graduated from the eighth grade, In September they were joined by thirteen scared and bewildered Freshmen just like them- selves, This year they gained Ilene Bauer, Elda Jensen, Patty Broer, Marsha Brummer, Genevieve Dowling, Shirley Wingette, Marcelene Wagner, Keith Yunker, Carl Vollerson, and Ronald Bauer, For their initiation the girls had to wear overalls, men's white shirts, men's shoes, their hair in pigtails and carry a big catalog, The boys had to wear long underwear backwards, shirt, nylon hose, women's shoes, their hair parted in the middle and carry a doll, After this' day they were full fledged high school members, Their first class party was a Halloween hunt, The girls were to hunt for the boys but as usual they couldn't find them, Their party ended after a lunch of chili and cocoa, Newcomers during the Sophomore year were Duane and Elaine West, Jean Grone, Virginia Taylor, and Norma Jean Engel, One reason why the class liked this year was because they were allowed to initiate twenty-six green Freshman, They had a lot of fun and are sure everything they did to them has been forgiven, Five boys and five girls were chosen to be waiters and waitresses for the Junior-Senior Banquet, They were Ed Atwood, Carl Vollerson, Ronald Bauer, Duane Lewis, Keith Yunker, Ilene Bauer, Patty Broer, Elda Jensen, Shirley Backer, and Jean Grone, They enjoyed being waiters and waitresses and any spilled coffee or broken dishes were purely accidental, The Sophomore year ended by losing Keith Yunker, Donavon Stamm and Claryce Nelson joined the class druing the Junior year, The class opened their busy Junior year with a Halloween hunt which was soon followed by their class play, On December 5 they presented the class play Dear Papa , It was a three-act comedy directed by Miss Plummer and Mr, Norvell, It was hard work and a new experience for all of them but was greatly enjoyed, During the first semester Glennadine Roland and Shirley Wingette left the class and decided their future by becoming Mrs, Gene Barker, and Mrs, Eddie Kruger, It is the -class' sincerest wish that they should have nothing but the best of luck, Ronald Bauer and Norma Jean Engel also left during the year, The Junior year was climaxed by the Junior-Senior Banquet, Song of the Island was chosen as the theme, The auditorium was divided into two parts, One part was used as the dance floor, ' the other was decorated to represent a garden, The ballroom was decorated in bright Hawaiian colors and the garden was made up of palm trees and lawn furniture, The waitresses wore grass skirts and the boys wore white trousers and bright figured shirts, Each person attending the banquet was given a lei to wear around his neck or arm, The banquet was harduwork but the Juniors were well rewarded with compliments, The Senior year started with a bang, No members were gained this year, so all were well acquainted right from the beginning, The girls hid from the boys this year at Halloween and were almost found, They were very lucky in staying under cover until the time was up, Before the hunt they had a delicious pheasant fry, I guess that's why the boys were a little slow in finding the girls, In November the graduation pictures were taken by Genelli photographers and as usual some were flattered and most were satisfied, ,
