The class, as members of the showboat cast, presented the following documents. Senior Class Roll The class of 1953 numbers but sixteen, Though it lacks in quantity, its quality is supreme. Our sponsor, Mr, P, J. Wolph, is really one ' ' swell guy, We will all remember him as the years pass by. Also there's Coach Norvell, papa of two little dears, He has been a sponsor for four years. First on our list is fun-loving Marsha B., Wherever you see Steve, Marsha you'll also see. And then there's that blond guy, whose name - Carl V., With his red bomber he makes history. Virginia is the gal who gets to bed quite late, Missing school in the mornings is her sad fate. Next is our own Blondie, she's really on her way, And when that green Ford appears, there is Elda J. Q Elaine Nest is the diamond girl of the class, At any rate, she has a real reason to want to pass, Waitress Claryce Nelsen works in a cafe, When she waits on tables, the boys all Come her way. Duane Lewis is a lover boy as you can all see, A newspaper man he's bound he will be, Look who's next: Why it's Genny D., If you see Marsha, there Genny will be. This year Dorothy held the Pep Club whip, But we hear guitar music makes her heart skip. 16 There's Patty Broer, who plans to be a nurse, When it comes to picking men, she could do worse. ' And now a shot of fireworksf Why it's Donovan S., When it comes to flirting, he's among the best, In our merry little class, mixed with all the rest, ls a future teacher-Jean Grone-one of the very best. Success is sure to come the way, Of the rancher's daughter, Marcelene Faye, And now brainy Duane W. who never flunked a quiz, When it comes to getting grades he's really a whiz, Then we have Ed Atwood, who an announcer plans to be, He will make a good one too, you just wait and see. Last on the list of Seniors is Ilene B., She say's George Schmidt is the only boy for me. Now that you've heard our poem, we bid you fond farewell, Have pleasant memories when we hear the buzz of the old school bell. The Class--Yesterday The class of 53 , which will soon enter the ranks of the Alumni, has only two students who attended the twelve years together, namely Ed Atwood and Duane Lewis, These boys have gained many classmates and lost many, In the fourth grade they were joined by Shirley Backer, in the sixth grade by Glennadine Roland and in the eighth grade by Dorothy I Schmidt, And so together these five graduated from the eighth grade, In September they were joined by thirteen scared and bewildered Freshmen just like them- selves, This year they gained Ilene Bauer, Elda Jensen, Patty Broer, Marsha Brummer, Genevieve Dowling, Shirley Wingette, Marcelene Wagner, Keith Yunker, Carl Vollerson, and Ronald Bauer, For their initiation the girls had to wear overalls, men's white shirts, men's shoes, their hair in pigtails and carry a big catalog, The boys had to wear long underwear backwards, shirt, nylon hose, women's shoes, their hair parted in the middle and carry a doll, After this' day they were full fledged high school members, Their first class party was a Halloween hunt, The girls were to hunt for the boys but as usual they couldn't find them, Their party ended after a lunch of chili and cocoa, Newcomers during the Sophomore year were Duane and Elaine West, Jean Grone, Virginia Taylor, and Norma Jean Engel, One reason why the class liked this year was because they were allowed to initiate twenty-six green Freshman, They had a lot of fun and are sure everything they did to them has been forgiven, Five boys and five girls were chosen to be waiters and waitresses for the Junior-Senior Banquet, They were Ed Atwood, Carl Vollerson, Ronald Bauer, Duane Lewis, Keith Yunker, Ilene Bauer, Patty Broer, Elda Jensen, Shirley Backer, and Jean Grone, They enjoyed being waiters and waitresses and any spilled coffee or broken dishes were purely accidental, The Sophomore year ended by losing Keith Yunker, Donavon Stamm and Claryce Nelson joined the class druing the Junior year, The class opened their busy Junior year with a Halloween hunt which was soon followed by their class play, On December 5 they presented the class play Dear Papa , It was a three-act comedy directed by Miss Plummer and Mr, Norvell, It was hard work and a new experience for all of them but was greatly enjoyed, During the first semester Glennadine Roland and Shirley Wingette left the class and decided their future by becoming Mrs, Gene Barker, and Mrs, Eddie Kruger, It is the -class' sincerest wish that they should have nothing but the best of luck, Ronald Bauer and Norma Jean Engel also left during the year, The Junior year was climaxed by the Junior-Senior Banquet, Song of the Island was chosen as the theme, The auditorium was divided into two parts, One part was used as the dance floor, ' the other was decorated to represent a garden, The ballroom was decorated in bright Hawaiian colors and the garden was made up of palm trees and lawn furniture, The waitresses wore grass skirts and the boys wore white trousers and bright figured shirts, Each person attending the banquet was given a lei to wear around his neck or arm, The banquet was harduwork but the Juniors were well rewarded with compliments, The Senior year started with a bang, No members were gained this year, so all were well acquainted right from the beginning, The girls hid from the boys this year at Halloween and were almost found, They were very lucky in staying under cover until the time was up, Before the hunt they had a delicious pheasant fry, I guess that's why the boys were a little slow in finding the girls, In November the graduation pictures were taken by Genelli photographers and as usual some were flattered and most were satisfied, , Silver and Aqua were chosen as our class colors and the yellow rose as the class flower, Not Finished, Just Begun , was selected as the classqmotto, At the end of the first semester another classmate, Shirley Backer, who had by this time completed her high school work, decided her future by becoming the wife of Robert Eddy, The Senior Class wish them much happiness in the years to come, It was decided that the class play The Adorable Imp , would be presented the lst of April, This play took much time and patience not only in the part of the characters but also for the direct- ors, Mr, Wolph and Mr, Norvell, The morning of April l0th the Seniors forgot to go to school and spent a two day vacation in Omaha and Lincoln, They were chaperoned by Mr, Wolph and Mr, Norvell, who I am sure had as good a time as they did, While in Omaha they attended the Ice Capades, This was a new ex- perience for most of them and they thoroughly enjoyed it, On May 5, the Seniors were honored at a beautiful banquet, which was sponsored by the Juniors, They all know a banquet requires a lot of work, but they want the Juniors to know they really appreciated it., The year has now drawn to a close, The Seniors are all happylyet regret leaving Randolph High, As they assemble together graduation night, maybe for the last time, they will recall many things, some will be happy, others will be sad, They have worked hard but have been well rewarded After they leave they are not going to stop working--- They are not finished, they have just begun, The Class--Today We the Senior Class of Randolph High School, being in full possession of all our mental faculties and having no fear of anyone before our eyes, do hereby devise, will, bequeath, and convey our various earthly possessions, to the persons hereafter mentioned to be by them held in un- disturbed possession through the length of their mortal spans, To the teachers of Randolph High School, we convey our ability to know a good thing when we see it, As this ability has been largely created by their instructions, we are merely returning to them their own invaluable gift, To the Juniors who will soon become Seniors, we bestow all the mistakes, blunders, and in- accuracies, committed by us during the last year of our most exciting life, To the Freshman and Sophomores, collectively and individually, we convey our power to say the wrong thing in the right place, or the right thing in the wrong place, To the Grade School we merely say, keep trying, you'll get here someday, Our large castles and estates in Spain, we give to anyone who cares to exercise the squatter's privilege and take possession. Carl Vollerson, the class president of 1953 sent all class members a letter directing them as to the plans of the reunion, I received my letter from Carl informing me to meet on May 20th in the auditorium of the recently constructed S3000,000,00 Randolph High School. lflew to Sioux City Via T,W,A, new jet engined passenger plane and then hired an inexpensive helicopter to fly me to Randolph, 1 arrived early for the celebration, consequently I was the first there - I marveled at the structure of the new high school building, The janitor showed me in and we walked to the auditorium, As I reached for the door it opened by the means of an electric eye, As I was exploring the room I heard voices down the hall, One was the voice of the now famous Ilene Bauer, She is famous now for giving the world the most efficient flu pill it has ever had, She said she found the pill's formula through long study and interest, It seems she became first interested in flu pills while a Senior in high school, . Next to arrive was the famous Marsha Brummer, Marsha still had that ornery look on her face that always possessed her, She tells me that she has long since settled down to be a famous housewife and 1 hear tell she is one of the best in the country, Who is this woman? Well as I live and breathe its Patty Broer, Patty tells me she is the wife of a Professor of Education at the University of Colorado and they are living 'in Boulder, Patty, who is a registered nurse, tells me she worked steadily at it until ten years ago when she settled down to strictly the chores of a housewife and carrying for her four children, Well who is this well poised girl, By gosh I believe it's Genny Dowling, Genny tells me she is secretary to the president of a large insurance company in Chicago, Jean Grone came next, She has been teaching in one of the New York grade schools, She is also giving Congress a hard time by trying to get a Sadie Hawkins Day law passed, She finds trapping a big time newspaper editor very hard, as it is easy for someone famous to play hard to get, Well who is this, it's Elda Jensen, Qformerlyj Elda di.dn't have far to come for she lives about 45 miles out of Randolph, She has been married twenty-four years now, Life is never dull, though for she had six deductions from Dean's income tax report, to take care of, Well, here is a person everyone knows, even after twenty-five years, Mr, Duane Lewis has made himself famous by his widely read editorials in the New York Times of which he is editor-in-chief, Louie is just as carefree as he ever was, I find after visiting with him, By George, I believe that this is Claryce Nelsen coming in the door, Claryce has been a secretary for twenty-five years, She has worked up gradually until now she has a well established position, She is the secretary to the chief producer of 20th Century-Fox in Hollywood, California, I know this next one, it's Dorothy Schmidt. She was married' on CBS television on the Program QBride and Grooml, She and her husband are in Hollywood, California and are re- cording for Capital records, They are quite popular too, You see they are the successors to the late Les Paul and Mary Ford. Well Bless my-buttons: it's Don Stamm, Don still lives around Randolph on a farm, He how ever is one of the most well known farmers in the country. He is also one of the most scientific farmers in the state. In addition he has placed very high in the national contests, Can you guess what? Don gives credit to his start in this field to the F, F, A, Is this Virginia Taylor '? Yes, at least it was her name when she went to school. She lives in Sioux City and her husband is district manager of all the Texaco oil stations in the district, Here is Carl Vollerson, the president of our Senior year twenty-five years back, He has changed, very little Ican see, Carl has also hit the top. He is foreman-in-chief of Electrical Engineers in General Electric's huge plant at Schenectady, New York, From the looks of the car he drove up in he is not working for peanuts. ' ' Next to perambulate through the door was Marcelene Wagner, She has really got a job. She is Head Nurse at Walter Reed Memorial Hospital in Washington, D. C. My here comes a little man with an intelligent ldok on his face, Yes, it's Duane We st, Can you guess his job? He is head professor of all mathematics at the Georgia Institute of Technology, better known as Georgia Tech, Here is the Mathematical brains' sister--Elaine, She is of course married and resides out of the town of Osmond, Her husband owns a great deal of land and they, plus dependents, are well on their way toward prosperity And last, but not least there is yours truly Ed Atwood. I imagine you all remember Walter Winchells' death, As of not too long ago Itook over his program, A survey was taken recently and my program was declared the most listened to program in the United States. I was about to say good-by when I came upon two dear friends of the Senior Class, They are none other than our sponsors, .Tim Wolph and Bill Norvell, Mr. Wolph is now on the verge of retirement as he is sole owner of Wolph's c-lothing, the largest, and most luxurious men's clothing store in Denver, Colorado, Mr, Norvell, now farms on the side, but devotes almost all of his time to the Government, He is President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate and is one of the most influential senators in the United States. , N 1-nmmwwf et1m.,.,r: A , ,,.., l,,l.wm4-V, - . fvfw WU-Q. -5 S F K ' Y -fr V.
