Go forth to meet the shadowy future without fear, and a manly heart. The doors through which we have passed are now closed and shall never be opened again. lt is our sincere hope that our past shall never be forgotten, and our spirit shall live on as we pass by. In this 1957 annual we hope to revive the pleasant memories of our high school days together. In the years to come when the way is dark and insecure you will be able to turn to your Bobcat and once again relive all those happy high school memories. I ..1-L + X x R x X fl. EDGINGTON We, the class of '57, dedicate our annual to someone whom we feel deserves this honor far above anything or anyone else. In our es- timation he has done more to help guide our young lives as boys and girls of today, to the better men and women of tomorrow. His pa- tience, leadership, and guidance have instilled in all our hearts the desire and the determination to set for ourselves only the highest goals in life. Each one of us will strive to attain these goals as we pass through the years. We take great pride in dedicating this '57 year- book to our superintendent, Mr. O. R. Edgington. When the snow lay deep on the ground they came to the basketball games. Papers, magazines, and crepe pa- per were carried up these steps as the stu- dents worked on projects for their class and clubs. To Honor Society induction, Future Nurses recognition, track meets, baseball games, and band practice have come these students and others. Though many steps are trod in life the students of Randolph will never forget these and other memories even after they have come down these steps for the last time. e' ' 2 . SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Our day is done, and our work is overg but we shall not cry, for Randolph has given us some of the happiest days of our lives. The chatter . . . the laughter . . . and of course the tears were a part of each one of us at one time or another. How we loved those late play practices . . . making the decora- tions for a dance . . . and those gatherings at each others' homes after school. These things will always hold a place in our hearts, but first on the list of memories we'd have to put those loved football and basketball games, when the Randolph spirit was so strong it astounded all who heard it. A hope, a dream, and a prayer fills each of our hearts as we open the door to the future. We stand with our feet steady on the ground and our eyes fastened on the stars because we are bound and determined to make our fellow- man . . . our country . . . and our God proud of us and remember us always- -the Class of '5'7. SOPHOMGRE CLASS GFFICER A flash and a dash and we're off! After having made it through the freshman year, we were much more confident this year. The members of our class began to weave together and unite a strong organization of boys and girls. We were coming to realize that hard work contributed by every member of the class made for much better spirit, and projects were finished in half the time. The many bake sales . . . the gay parties . . . and the dances were enjoyed by everyone who attended, Through these experiences, we feel confident that in the future years we will always work . . . play . . . and strive together as we, the Sophomore Class, have done this year. BOBCAT ST FF 5, f A Hey, come on--hand me a pencil! Well, you must hurry or we'll never get this out on time! My head hurts! These are famil iar words to every member of this high-powered staff. Work on this 1957 BOBCAT started in the spring of 1956, when the staff compiled the attractive Typical Day in the Life of a Ran- dolph Student section. Layouts were made . . . and remade. Copy was written . . . discarded . . . rewritten. Pictures were taken . . . and retaken. The staff worked, toiled and sweated, only to find things must be done over more carefully. That's what drove them to distraction . . . almost . . . but then they dove in all the harder and really loved every minute of it. Yes, kids, at times it was doubtful whether there'd ever be a well-organized book between these lids, but here it is--bigger and better than ever before, We like it! Do you? These are some of the many complaints of the students which the Council members discuss with the faculty, Remember our beautiful Homecoming? That was the work of the Student Council. Remember when you scurried around to get your locker cleaned before one of the members of the Council came around to inspect it? This, too, was a big project of the Student Council. The proceeds of the pro- jects they sponsored bought a punch bowl which is to be used by the entire school. Yes, the Student Council is a very vital part of the oper- ation of our high school, because through it the teacher and the student can obtain a better understanding of one another. Members are chosen on the basis of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Impressive inductions are held twice a year to induct new members. Old members get the same thrill, when they come around the auditorium to tag the new members, that they received when they were the ones who were being tagged. These students must realize their grave respon- sibility in keeping high standards, and serve as a beacon to draw others into desiring membership by meeting the requirements of the organization. The members are quite aware of the current happenings in all parts of the world. They have panel discussions, assemblies, and educational programs which are given before the high school. They appear on television many times. So, if you are interested in world affairs, here's the best club to join. It will be educational, helpful, and lots of fun, because, remember, they take an annual trip to Washington, D. The chorus, under the direction of Mr. Cool, has sung for the P,T,A, and has helped in congregational singing at our monthly chapel ser- vices. The chorus has become an important part of R, H, S, , and if it continues to make the strides that it has already made it will hold an even more prominent position. ' THE WINNING TEAM OF '56 What makes a winning ball club? Is it the coach? Is it one individual? Or is it just plain luck? This year's coaching staff found the answer to that question. The thing that makes winning ball club is team spirit. The will to win, not for yourself, but for the team, and co -operation from each and every player on the team. That's what it takes, and that's what the coaches taught our guys that made them a winning ball club. Thanks coaches, not only for a lesson in football, but also for the lesson in life. COACHES MR. We copped the '56-'57 championship along with an unmarred league record. Our boys, coached by Bill Yensel, played like champions through the entire season. As the last few games approached, we grew full of anticipation - dreamily and hopefully visualizing the coveted S.W,B.L. trophy gleaming in our trophy case. We cinched the title with a 56 - 47 win over West Milton, who was down only one game in the race for the top. Our friends across the river were highly surprised to find that our boys were finally able to overcome the jinx that they seemingly held over us. We broke it all right - with an 84 - 34 walloping. Proud? You bet we are! Our '56-'57 team will go down in the books as one that had the determination and the WILL TO WIN. Q ' ,wx b .UMW 5 L S 4X PS5 . E , Ii?
