Oar dirst Steps In September 1939 the boys in vocational agri- culture formed a chapter of Future Farmers of America and the girls in Home Economics formed a chapter of Future Homemakers of America. In October 1940 many other clubs and organi- zations were formed. These organizations furnished opportunities to a 1 1 students for practice in and development of leadership as well as help in solving their personal and social problems. John Lyle served as the first Senior Class presi- dent, Anne Jackson as the Junior Class president, Emmette Daniel, Jr. as Sophomore Class presi- dent, and Earl Spencer as Freshman Class presi- dent. OracfiL utions The class of 1940 had the unusual responsibility of se- lecting a gift for the new and seemingly perfect school. The Charlotte County Historical Pageant which the class presented in place of a play revealed the need of a spotlight. Thus, this spotlight became the first gift to the school by a Senior Class. Since that time each class has sought, through a gift, to leave R-H a little nearer perfect than it was when it entered. 9
