ENGLISH Every time a person opens his mouth he tells the world the con- dition of his English grammar. Students have this fact impressed upon them as they tediously master gerunds, participles, and subordin- ate clauses. They utilize their learning by writing themes and term papers. One semester is de- voted entirely to literature, gen- eral for the first three years, American for juniors, and English for seniors. Mrs. Hamilton, Miss Laird, Mrs. McNair, Mrs. Holt, Mr. Pugh, Mrs. Ware Mrs. Henry, Mrs. Paulette, Mr. Williamson MUSIC AND ART From the slide of the trom- bone to the beat of the drum, the Randolph-Henry band is easily recognized as it marches briskly across the field. The musical group wear their bright blue uniforms as they partici- pate in football half-time activi- ties, p air a d e s, Homecoming, music contests, and their own concerts. Throughout our school you can see evidence of the excellent work done in the art department. Bulletin boards and posters keep us informed about important events. The art exhibit during the second semester is one of the high spots of the year. SCIENCE '4Oh no, Worms! Oh yes, and grasshoppers and fish, too. Biology students gain knowledge through the pains of dissecting while chem- istry students endure the danger- ous uncertainties of experimenta- tion. Physics classes are not without their suspenseful moments, also, but they occur on report day, not on lab day. Students in general science enjoy a few experiences from each of the above activities. It seeks to develop muscular skills through participation in both team and individual sports. Finally it endeavors to create and maintain a spirit of good sportsmanship, not only in interclass games but also in interscholastic competition. It forever strives to perpetuate a spirit of' kindness, courtesy, and respect toward all students repre- senting neighboring schools and teaches health, health habits, and driver training. GUIDANCE COUNSELLORS Twelve counsellors work with the co-ordinator of guidance, the administration, the faculty, the students, and the parents to pro- vide information, counselling, col- lege selection, and follow up ser- vice. Each student feels free to call upon his counsellor whenever there is a need. Mr. Frye, Mrs. Smith, Mr. Brewster, Mr. Jones, Mrs. Lyle Mr. Jones, Miss Pugh, Mrs. McGhee Departments MATHEMATICS Our math teachers stop at noth- ing to teach the principles of mathematics to us. In plane geo- metry the protractor and straight edge are evident. In solid geometry you will probably see models of figures in string and cardboard and in algebra you might even see a teacher rolling dice to explain a principle. In spite of the methods used, those planning to study math in college are grateful for Ran- dolph-Henry's excellent math de- partment.
