Lyle BUSINESS EDUCATION Through courses in typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping, the business education department prepares students to secure business positions. A large number of stu- dents choose typing as preparation for col- lege or for personal use. SOCIAL STUDIES Courses offered in this de- partment include Virginia his- tory and government, American history and government, world history and world geography as well as civics. Current events, outside read- ing, historical movies, and oral reports f u r n i s h purposeful le a r n i n g activities. These courses help students to meet every day realities and to pre- pare for future citizenship. 1 Miss Odom, Miss liauglian Departments Mrs. Bowen, Mrs. Nichols HOME ECONOMICS Home Economics courses seek to make the students aware of the value of a good home. These students learn to cook and to plan and make many useful garments. Their study of family life calls attention to the im- portance of happy marriages and parenthood. Through practical home mak- ing projects, the students learn to work independently toward the solution of personal and homemaking problems.
