Kern has become one of Randolph-Maconis inspirational symbols. He has passed on to us his philosophy that learning and life are inseparable and has brought to us the realization that learning is the basis upon which we will be able to build a fuller and more satisfying life. All year, from summer through the following spring, the staff members of the 1948 HELIANTHUS have been working for this moment-when you re- ceive this book, the product of our work. Manuscript, compiling, photography, advertising-all these and many more have been running through our minds until sometimes we wondered whether there would ever be an end, and Whether we like you would ever see the HELIANTHUS finished.
