Because, after this rejection of her love, Clytie could know no happiness on earth, Zeus changed her into a sunflower, so that she might be happy again in following the course of her lover, day by day. GQ Because the name of our annual, HELIANTHUS, means sunflower 'we have chosen this story as an appropriate theme.
