Flying for the first time in my life was only the beginning of two months of beautiful experiences. I arrived in the tiny Cocabamba airport to be met by Mamy and Papy Pereira, my two Bolivian sisters, one of my brothers, and a cousin. My first drive through Co- chabamba showed the beautiful, almost rustic city of plazas and gardens that I would come to love. Especially that first day I noticed that burros, sheep, motor- cycles, and ancient taxis dominated the streets. Each day in Bolivia started with a breakfast of coffee and rolls. On my bus ride to school I stuffed myself into the nearest empty spot and was seldom one of the lucky twenty out of sixty passengers who found seats. We ate a sandwich at school around noon and when w-e returned home about three we had soup and main course for lunch. Tea was about six and the big meal of the day was served at eight-thirty with the whole family. The complete household consisted of beside myself, my grandmother, mother, father, two brothers, my married sister, her husband, their baby, my younger sister, the live-in maid, and the daytime maid and her baby. An extra maid came in on weekends to help clean house. Hospitality is Bolivia's most refined art so I was an honorary native the first day. And from that moment on I hardly sat down. The people love movies, night clubs, and parties, so could I .spoil their fun? Ha! I only wish I could have brought my second home and country here with me. 91 l !
