We have not always succeeded in our objectives, but the foundation which we have acquired will help us surpass the unprepared youth of today Cadolescentsl. The scholastic standards of our society hav.e required long hours of deep concen- tration not only to meet our expectations but also those of our community. Our goals are great, and the strength we need to meet these goals will be sup- ported by the knowledge we have gained and the courage we possess to face the is ewes? is dffifeijl three Dedication J' V f ,Q ff X ig' ,K ,. . + jill' ,v,, . if Q ,Lv .,J1Q',7,,u,,d Mig' ,,. . 1 ef N. -Cf ..1,,,.f7 ,. 0? , ,, My ,JXQ H , f A, , V , , , ,ff ,JJ ,QV 516 15,7 flu 22, ,V 5 . Five members were elected to service on the Board: with repre- sentation equally divided between Supt. Dist. No. 1 and 3 and with one member from Supt. Dist. No. 2. Superintendents of these Districts were J. D. Sprout, No. 1g Grant Walrath, No. 2,' and Kenneth Gibbin, No. 3. Of the original five Board Mem- bers elected, two still are members - Dr. Allen Cole of Gowanda and Mr. LuRay Knapp of Cattar- augus, both having been el.ected to represent Dist. No. 3. For the first year of Operation, 1953-54, thirteen shared services were utilized. Of the original thirteen employees, one is still with the Cooperative Board, but in a different capacity. Mr. Joseph Czapla was originally a Guidance Coun- selor. but changed to Psychology in 1954-55. Other services offered in the first years of the Coopera- tive Board's existence were Dental Hygiene, Driv- er Training, Art, Music, Speech Correction. With the death of Supt. Gibbin in November. 1961, Supervisory Dist. No. 3 was absorbed by Dists. No. 1 and 2, and again in 1963, when Mr. Walrath re- tired, another change combined 12 Central and Union Free Dis- tricts into the Sole Supervisory District of Cattaraugus Co.,' with J. D. Sproul as District Superintendent. At the annual meeting of the BOCES in 1962, members present moved to apply to the Commissioner of Education of the State of New York to increase the present five member board to a nine member. Request was granted and at a- Special Meeting in June, 1962, four additional members were elected. Shared services increased to a new high in 1965-66 with the addition of Olean City as a com- ponent of the Coop Board. We now have 42 shared service teachers on the payroll-these to include Teachers of the Mentally Retarded, Visually Hand- icapped, Vocational Technical Training, Psycholo- gists, Remedial Reading in addition to the aforc mentioned services offered when the BOCES was originally formed. Randolph Central School has shared services with BOCES in these persons and areas: Thelma Harper, Visually Handicapped: Paul Miller, Speech Correction, and Larry R. Sullivan, School Psychol- ogist. Mr. Sullivan handles educational and per- sonal problems referred to him by school personnel and parents. He is an educational specialist who focuses his attention on the factors that enable students to gain the gneatest possible advantage from their school experiences. Debate Club Debate is an organization which enables a student to broaden his knowledge of world affairs and to become acquainted with the opinions of others. Although it requires re- search the satisfaction derived from a suc- cessful speech more than compensates for the hard work and utmost effort. The club was not formed to win trophys 'rather to develop yozlng 'minds and to emphasize the importance of one's own opinion. Randolph is included in the Sou.thcrn T ier Debating section in which such schools as Southwestern, Brarlforcl Central Christian mul Bishop Walsh are included. There are four divisions of the debating tram Novice A and B. Semi-experienced, and E.w-periencerl. Usually the Noviees are only allowed to participate in th.e east tournament of the year although they are an important part of the team. A great amount of work goes into debat- ing and if a. team wins 3 league debates they neceifve a pin. The purposes of the group are taken 1. To act as a stimulant and inspiration Under the cramped conditions of the elementary school gym, the newly organized volleyball team got off to quite a successful start. Mr. Jern and Mr. Jones, not expect ing too many boys to play, had forty-five boys out for the first practice. With lots of enthusiasm and some long practices the team gradually took shape. The team went to Cattaraugus and Pine Valley to scrim- mage their teams. The short season ended with Randolph placing third in the annual bicounty volleyball tournament which was held at Brocton this year.' We're looking forward to next year with more experience and also better facilities in which to practice. seventy-six in building a strong, well-rounded, ath letic program. 2. To act as a serviceable organization in the school. 3. To set a fine example in athletics for younger boys to follow. 4. To occupy the leisure time of its mem- bers with worthwhile projects. The club has done much to promote school spirit. The buttons, sweatshirts, and pennants the club has sold, along with the letters and Varsity Club jackets, have done much to prove our loyalty to our school and invigorate the interests of thc students. In order to join the Varsity Club, one must earn a varsity letter and have desirable personal and scholastic qualities. This, along with the presentation of the most valuable player of the year awards in basketball, wrestling, and foot- ball, help to encourage younger boys to become better sportsmen in school, The Randolph Varsity Club is an organiza- tion ready to help young boys in sports, and keep the school spirit alive.
