Rhode Island. first joined Randolph in january 1966 when detaeh- ments from her various squadrons. YS-34. YS-39 and HS-9 made short cruises with the ship. CYSG-60 be- came Randolplfs Air Group in April and made a short ASW cruise with the ship from April I4-23 in the Vir- ginia Capes Operating Area. Air Group Sixty embarked Randolph on May 16. 1966 for the summer cruise to Northern Europe. The Air Group Conducted its Operational Readiness In- spection. passing with flying colors. The Air Group participated in several ASW exercises preparing for the six nation, thirty ship NATO exer- cise. Operation Straight Laced, which took place in August. Soon it was time to return home. Air Group Sixty was aboard for only a short time, but many new friendshipswere formed. Air Group sixty will be missed in future Randolph operations.
