After steaming 500 yards past CVS-15, the ships tacked into a light wind and unfurled their sails in a never-to-be forgotten spectacular. Secretary Nitze departed by helo, while the rest of the guests rode the carrier into New York's Pier No. 88, where they debarked with some of the ship is liberty-bound crewmen. july 17, 18 and 19 were devoted to uopen house, with 6,000, 12,000 and 9,000 visitors coming aboard respectively on the three days.
