On Feb. 29, CDR Robert Dose landed an F9F-8 Cou- gar on the RandoIph's newly- modernized flight deck for the ship's first angled-deck land- ing. A few days later, Major James Sharp, USMC, made the l2,000th landing aboard the Randolph since her recommis- sioning almost three years ago. Also a member of Air Develop- First Angled ment Squadron Three, the Marine aviator made the land- ing in another F9F-8 Cougar, On March l3, CDR Jack N, Durio from Air Task Group 202 chalked up the l3,000th landing in a propeller-driven Douglas Skyraider. The three noteworthy land- ings added to the RandoIph's already impressive record dur- ing her first two weeks of oper- ations at sea. Operating planes ranging from the old TBM Avenger to the latest FJ-4 Fury, the carrier logged in more than l4OO landings - an average of better than lOO a day.
