Chorus: We have seen together how the spring Made miracles of thee and flow'r5 But the joy that summer bro't to us, Led us on t'ward this pensive, parting hour. Chorus: Farewell dear Seniors, farewell dear Seniors, Our golden days are coming to an endg But we will hope for brighter days to come, When we shall meet again. 42 enior elaoo gfiotory As we turn back the tables twelve years, we recall many cherished memories. Between the years 1951 and 1963, many events have taken place. We have made new friends, learned to cooperate with one another, and grown to respect our classmates, as well as their beliefs and opinions. After eight wonderful years of elementary school, one hundred fifty-three students were faced with an important phase of maturity. This was only four years ago when we entered the Randleman High School. Our sponsors were Mr. Clarence Edwards, Mr. Joseph Brookshire, Mr. Leo Corder, Mrs. Lucile Newlin, and Mr. J. M. Smith. Under their guidance, we experienced an unforgettable Freshman year. The year 1960 brought a second high school year which meant a great dealmore to us because now we had one year of high school behind us. From examples set by other classes, our class of one hundred five students learned how a Sophomore class was expected to behave. To remind us of what was expected of us were our sponsors, Mr. Fletcher Causey, Miss Myrtle Cox, Mr. Addison A. Wall, and Miss Addie Thomas. After a short vacation, we returned to find ourselves next to the top. Our junior year brought eighty-two students back 'with many new things to learn, to dream, and to work for. Among our most thrilling events was the junior play, which was sponsored by Miss Wanda Walton, Mr. Elbert Pritchard, and Mr. James Howell. The class enjoyed making plans for a never-to-be-forgotten Junior-Senior Banquet, held at Starmount Country Club on April 28, 1962. Only a brief summer separated that year from this one. . . OUR SENIOR YEAR. This year unfolded many activities, along with the privileges of being a Senior. With this, the closing of our last year, we look back on the never-ending memorable events which are still hard to recall. Our class rings finally arrived on October 1, 1962, thrilling the seventy- two students fortunate enough to receive them. Among other Senior events were the Senior play, selecting the Annual Staff, superlatives, invitations, caps, and gowns. It was also wonderful to have been honored at the Junior-Senior Banquet. Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Pack and Mrs. Wynona Langley, our class sponsors, greatly enriched our Senior year. To those two and all our other teachers go our gratitude. We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. W. K. Cromartie, who was principal during three of our high school years, and Mr. J. R. Coggins, who guided us through our Senior Year. From this 1963 graduating class of Randleman High School, go twelve short years of work, play, friendships, and new plans for the future. We leave many beloved memories, and sad, yet happy hearts, and with deep feelings for a wonderful school like R.H.S. KAY DAVIS Class Historian 43 elaoo rophecy I was enjoying an afternoon at the home of LINDA ROBBINS. For the last ten years since our graduation in 1963, I've been traveling around the world collecting material for my books. At last, I had made it back to Randleman, and after a tour of the ROBBINS'S palatial new home, LINDA was showing me pictures taken at the class reunion a few months ago. Of course the first pictures she showed me were the ones of our closest friends. There's SYLVIA WOOD, she's a medical secretary. She came with her husband Gene and their three children. It sounds as if the Wood's are trying to start their own forest. CHARLOTTE PUGH hasn't grown an inch since graduation, Linda said. Her size hasn't handicapped her piano playing at all. She just completed a highly successful tour of Russia. Oh, doesn't ANN PICKETT look well ? I remarked. You know, she's starring on Broadway in the biggest hit of the season, 'The Little Dog Laughed. ' There's Sl-IERRY WHITE. What's she doing now? I asked. l'd like to see her. I hope you don't have to, Linda replied. Sherry's a psychiatrist. ELIZABETH FRAZIER and KAY DAVIS were at the reunion together. They both teach school at Randleman. Oh, by the way, another of our classmates is also a school teacher-MAURICE HILL is a professor of law at Harvard. Wasn't SHEILDA DUNI-IAM there? I asked. No, she couldn't leave Connecticut. She's working as J. D. Salinger's secretary and doing some writing of her own. JUDY ROUTH looks like a fashion model, I said. She is. She goes to Paris, Rome, and New York to model the SHIRLEY DENNIS line of clothes. There's OUENTIN PARK. I ran into him in Los Angeles not too long ago. Quentin Park is Warner Brothers' biggest star. One picture showed NEWBERN DOUGLAS and JIMMY ROBBINS deep in conversation. They must have been discussing the past football season. Jimmy is with Philadelphia and Newbern plays for Green Bay. Another of our classmates is a professional athlete-ROBERT STALEY pitches for the Dodgers. 44 elaoo Qprophecy ANN BROWN and SANDRA FOX looked as young as they did graduation night. I guess they stayed in top condition traveling around the country with their female Globetrotters. The PIERCE brothers couldn't make it to the reunion. They were rushing against a deadline. BASHER is head writer and LARRY is the new Don Martin at Mad Magazine. Linda picked up another picture. Remember INEZ STALEY? She owns Randleman's biggest beauty salon, but she's soon going to join PHYLLIS DIXON. Phyllis creates many of the hair styles of MGM movies. JIM HICKS couldn't come-he was out of the country, Linda said. Jim's an astronaut, he may have been out of this world. WADE BROOKSHIRE has been in the control tower during each of Jim's launchings. BRENDA DORSETT and ARLENE PUGH are working together as interior decorators. NANCY GASTER, DELTA HALL, and WANDA GROCE came with their husbands. All three girls were married shortly after graduation and are hard at work at their careers as homemakers and mothers. Graduation couldn't have been so long ago, but CAROL MARTINDALE has a daughter in school. JOHNNY HODGIN and JOE FRED MCCAIN own the largest ranch in the country. Some people call it Texas. LARRY GREGSON is the foreman. PENNIE RICHARDSON is a private secretary to Rand1eman's most prominent child psychologist, DOVIE PEELER. OLA GRAY BATTEN is also a secretary. Her boss is Attorney E. E. STRICKLAND. LOUISE NEWBY is County Home Demonstration Agent. VIRGIL HUNT is head of the New York Fire Department, the largest fire department in the world. Remember when he put out the fire in the principal's car? CLYDE KISTLER followed his father into dentristry, not in an office, however, but on televison. When they took PAUL WHITAKER'S school bus away from him, he replaced it with a jet, Linda said. First in the Air Force and now for TWA. DONNA HIGHFILL is his stewardess. CHARLIE BROWN has taken Jack Kerouac's place as king of the beats. Another leader is LARRY COX. WAYNE ALLRED is head of WRRS, the Randleman radio station. TOMMY LYNDON is program director and RICHARD and JOHN LAMB are their popular disc jockey team. 45 61406 :prophecy BILLY FERREE did a lot of cutting up at R.H.S., but who ever thought he'd be a heart surgeon? l said as I gazed at the picture of the eminent resident at Duke Hospital. LINDA ADAMS and ANN ALLRED are both nurses at Cone Hospital in Greensboro. They are often working with Dr. RONALD LOFLIN. KERMIT PIERCE hasn't changed much, has he? Linda said. He and MICKEY DAVIS own Guilford Dairy. Isn't that WILLIAM JOHNSON? I heard he owns a supper club in Randleman. That's right, Linda said. WAYNE SHAW is doing his comedy routine there for the next two weeks. After that, GERALD COBLE will be there for the next two weeks. SHERRILL STEED is doing his racing on a track now, Linda told me. He's the newest member of the CHARLES BOLING Racing Team. MARY SUE WATSON and MAZEL WILLIAMS are working together compiling a series of ChiIdren's Encyclopedias. Do you recognize CHARLES WILLARD in this picture? He owns a chain of food stores that have put A S P out of business. LILLIAN INGOLD and LINDA KINNEY are working as x-ray technicians at the Randleman Hospital. BRENDA FARLOW and MYRA JEAN ROUTH are working for the Randolph County Welfare Department. GERALDINE SICELOFF and FAYE STAMEY couIdn't come to the reunion. They were too busy working at their restaurant. What about HILDA MARSH? I asked. Oh, she was there. She was a private secretary but she married her boss and doesn't work anymore. I noticed a picture that had fallen from the coffee table. It was TEANA WHITAKER, Miss Rendezvous of 1963. Teana is a cover girl for Qgtie and other top magazines. Well, that takes care of everyone. I have to go now. Thanks for a wonderful afternoon of memories, Linda. I walked from the Robbins's home, away from a wonderful past into the present. A present filled with success and happi- ness for my classmates.
